Help for the Stretch Run

Help for the Stretch Run

Postby Chokin' O » Sat May 06, 2006 11:45 am

This team outperformed my expectations for much of the season, and just five days ago was sitting pretty at 69-57 with a seven-game lead in the division. A 3-9 slump knocked the lead down to two games, though; last night, I took two out of three from second-place East Texas to bring it back up to three. I have been tempted to make several personnel changes lately, particularly at right field or DH. I've stayed put for the most part, but last night Russell Branyan went down for ten games. With today the last day to make transactions, what should I do? All suggestions are welcome.

I could drop my 3B platoon and Catalanotto and pick up Garabito/Young... problem is, the best 3B option available would be Joe Crede. :?

I could also drop Branyan and Catalanotto for Blalock and Young.

Here's what I do for the stretch run if I'm in 1st. or in contention...

I look once again at my divisional opponents. They could have made changes to their pitching or hitting. So I then look for help accordingly.

ie. If a team now has 6 or 7 righty bats, I may grab an under-performing SP for a hard RH. (or visa-versa)

If they now have all RH's in their rotation, I'll grab a lefty bat that hits righties hard.

In your case, you aren't hitting RH's very well. At least compared to LH's.

And lefties are hitting your staff better than righties.
