NLD 13 Draft thread

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu May 11, 2006 11:43 am

Joe,

Hard head?

I wouldn't be a Marine if I didn't have a focused drive

I have 80s teams where I'm at .600 winning % at 135 games (pitching park / huge offensive team) and my SPs are still being pulled after yielding one or two hits around the 4 / 5 inning mark.

Of course, I'm using $.75m RPs that I really don't want carrying the water for my $$$ SPs.

So TSN has something in the code where HAL reacts fast despite the settings.

I just want to retard it (the code).

Semp, with all due respect everyone is playing with the same "code". Instead of trying to adjust the code, you have to set up your team to compensate for whatever it's doing.

Let's use a poker analogy. You may be a certain type of poker player, but if you're at a table with a lot of agressive players, you may have to tighten up your play. If you're playing with tight players, then you become more aggressive. IOW, adapt your play accordingly. Otherwise, you are not going to be a good poker player.

I guess what I'm saying Semp is adapt your play with what HAL's doing, because you can't change HAL.

Interesting thought.

Ironically, TSN has taken notice of the issue and [b:0d13d79274]may[/b:0d13d79274] have a [i:0d13d79274]fix[/i:0d13d79274] very soon.

So, I'd like to think that I helped force the "changed" of HAL.

BTW, missed in all this chatter - my blabs have increased the postings over some of last year's season.

Of course, I have not complained about players getting injured (I have had my share), expensive batters failing to hit (I wish I had that problem), or bad player subsitutations.

Where I noticed the early starter issue - is on my 80s team(s) [not here] that were/are cruising along and sporting some best year cards (Cy Young years in pitching parks) - and getting pulled early and often.

Otherwise, my team will turn the corner and pee on another team's ball park this week. :P

[quote:a72926b393]What qksilver stated is not accurate.

His clarification that the Agg./Normal/Conserv. relief usage setting has nothing to do with the computer considering starters tired is correct, [b:a72926b393]but it DOES affect how quick the hook is on your starters in general[/b:a72926b393].

The section of the CD-ROM game's help files that Dean quoted is enlightening, because it mentions CG's, which is a dead give-away that the settings do affect the SP hook. It also brings up an important clarification I should make:

Our 3 relief usage settings map to the CD-ROM game settings in this way:

Code:
SOM ONLINE CD-ROM GAME
Aggressive Very Aggressive
Normal Aggressive
Conservative Normal

We left out the CD-ROM game's "Conservative" and "Extra Conservative" options because they were [b:a72926b393]FAR too conservative for the online game's context[/b:a72926b393].

I hope this clears things up a bit.[/quote:a72926b393]

From our league's team owner:

[quote:a72926b393]That crow is tasting might fine about right now....thanks Bernie! [/quote:a72926b393]

Does this mean my assumptions / expectations about the manager startegy settings on controlling relief usage still correct?

So I'm trying to figure out how our team is first in pitching and 4th in hitting and is sitting at .500.

Oh, and I should add that the Dragons have a BA 25 points lower than us along with lower OB and Slugging and has scored more runs. I guess we should have drafted Turnbow instead of Reyes.

I have a big series tonight versus Jeepdriver. although it is early, i cannot let him bounce me for three as he did in our last series. I have a feeling i will be playing for the WC if i get swept again tonight. unfortunately for me i will be missing D.lee for this series.

In other news, there are only 5 teams at or above .500 this morning furthermore there are only 6 team with a positive run differential and one of them is in last place. In his typical NLD fashion Hawkeye while starting cold has heated up big time and is pressing for first place in the wild, wild west.

I don't know the answer to that question but I'd tell you to ask Bernie

If anyone sees Johnson's bat, please let me know. He has been missing it for a few weeks now.

Semper-all my team needed was some negative print from the illustrious JoeTheJet to get my team going.Everytime his ratings get posted and he has my team at the bottom of the ratings pile they start to take off just so we can prove his ratings wrong  :D .I dont know what it is but that has been the case the last 3 seasons now.
Of course it has also helped that the injury bug has been staying away with the exception of Berkmans last 15 gamer

Hey Hawk, you're not proving anything wrong right now, your run diff is -31. That's what the ratings are best at predicting, not how lucky your timing is when you get your scoring. For example, we're +58 and we're a game under .500. Go figure.

Big is another guy with tough luck, he's +28 and 3 under. :?

Just ribbing you Niners. Guess I'm jealous right now. We outscore (and out-LOB) our opponents every series lately and drop 2 of 3 or get swept. Some really tough luck right now.
