Ode to Riggs Stephenson

The best player nobody talks about:

AB R 2B HR RBI BB SB E BA SLG OBP
612 110 42 26 83 95 14 4 .317 .520 .406
604 108 40 23 89 72 23 7 .348 .551 .418
260 40 13 7 61 26 12 3 .339 .500 .390
124 21 7 4 23 10 2 0 .403 .573 .444

It took me a while to come around on Riggs, but wow! The last two seasons are obviously still in the early goings, but one thing is constant...[b:b250167aa6][size=24:b250167aa6]HUGE NUMBERS![/size:b250167aa6][/b:b250167aa6]

The blame falls squarely on his teammate's shoulders. Darn glamour hound Kiki!

Riggs can hit anywhere and is a lock to be productive. That pesky +1 arm must be enough to deter some. I don't know. Sometimes I can't give him away, but he might start to inch higher up my draft card.

Well, +1 arm and a possible 15 gamer probably does deter some....I personally have never used him....BUT THINGS CAN CHANGE!!

This is in Fenway 67, but still...

Postby modmark46 » Fri May 12, 2006 8:12 am

...he out hit Kiki and Hack Wilson.
AB 643 R 158 2b 41 3b 7 HR 32 RBI 136 BB 78 SB 16 E 6 AVG .355 SLG% .589 OB% .420 OPS 1.009
Another plus, he has played in all but 3 games. Just 3 games to go until season ends. :)

for the money, I think Cleon and Joe Jackson are better-- faster, better arm, with comparable numbers, and Shoeless is even a 1. That extra mil can help out somewhere else.

That said, I have had nice seasons out of Riggs, but as DH.

From what I've seen, he does put up consistently better numbers than Kiki, but that 1(-3) and the speed are sure hard to beat.

The +1 in LF doesn't scare me as much as it would in CF or RF. In fact, that's the only place I'd put it.

I like Cleon and Shoeless just as much. I'm a bit soured on Cuyler, although that defense is hard to beat. He just doesn't perform as well for me as the other big money deadball type guys.
