The reason for his abominable LF rating is that Honus appeared in left during one game in 1909, recording no chances in the field.
Over his career, he appeared in the OF in 372 games and recorded 56 assists, or about 23 per 154 games. Not shabby, considering the Chief Wilson led the '09 Pirates with 19 assistes (in 154 games). His fielding pct. was 20 points higher than other outfielders during his time.
Almost certainly, Honus was a much better outfielder than his rating, but I can't really fault Strat, since it does generally prevent him from being used as even a semi-regular LF, which he clearly was not in 1909.
