bobm1007: That's TOO Quick of a Hook. He was pulled too early. The fix I plan to implement should be able to prevent this. Thanks for your submission.

2006 Sweat Sox

This one is a little strange in a couple of ways...
Sabathia is set to Quick Hook...
Duchschere has no settings
Relief Managerial Strategy setting is Aggressive

Sabathia is pulled in the 4th after giving up a S D HR.. no outs... only 3 hits he gives up all game along with 1 walk.... so 4 baserunners in total

Duchschere come in relief with bases empty.... proceeds to give up 4 hits and 2 walks and 4 runs.. and does not get pulled until the follwoing inning..

S.Hillenbrand 3 Double b-2
0 2 J.Kent 5 Walk b-1
0 12 M.Ensberg 3 Strike Out b-0
1 12 C.Figgins 7 Single 2-3 1-2 b-1
1 123 B.Ausmus 3 Sac Fly 3-H 2-3 1-2 b-0
2 23 J.Wilson 2 Single 3-H 2-H b-1
2 1 S.Podsednik 3 Double 1-H b-3
2 3 J.Damon 4 Walk b-1
2 1 3 L.Berkman 7 Strike Out b-0

so a VERY Quick Hook on my SP and my RP is left in until my team crys Uncle !....

Further info as I thought maybe usage or my settings on other members of bullpen might be creating the problem. Farnsworth is set to not come in until the 6th.. but Isringhausen is set the same as Duchshere.. i.e. no settings..

more info.. Isringhausen had only pitched 2/3 of inning the previous game and no innings the game before that .. so usage was not an issue for not bringing him in

Good Luck Bernie !

Just wondering why HAL took out Harang here. Manager settings are on normal. Harang is a S7* so he couldn't be tired.

Only setting on Harang is "Slow Hook".

Especially interesting is why Gonzalez is in to face a righty?

League: TSN_12443 Strat 2005
NorCal Baseball Club
game: 103

the game situation is the top of the 7th.
Zambrano is coasting, 6 hits no runs through 6 and 1/3, Past two innings were 1-2-3 for him. He gets Matsui to start the inning, he then walks Burrell. HAL removes him to bring Otsuka, who induces a double play.

8th inning

Otsuka pitching we are up 2-0

Castillo HR
(pitching change Dotel)- good move
Baldelli triple
Castro- sac bunt
Vlad G. strike out
Ortiz -walk
(pitcher change - Souse in -good move)
Matsui ground out

Okay so far, its tied but can't fault HAL except for pulling Zambrano.

9th

game tied 2-2

Shouse to start inning- He faces Burrell, Cabrera, Castillo, Reyes, Baldelli, Castro, Vlad. all RH hitters against Shouse who in 2005 is a 9L I believe. Izzy finally is called in, way way too late.

What was wrong?

Pulled Zambrano way too early and left Shouse in way too long. He should have used Shouse for the two LH hitters in the 8th and started the 9th with Izzy. That is what probably happened in real life. Now I am vulnerable in that I only have 5 pure relievers, but Izzy should have been given the ball and hope we hold them.

I score a run in the 9th we lose 7-3.

TSN-206

Minnesota Poison Pills

Games 160 & 161 against division rival with 1 game lead over this rival.

A. Eaton whose setting is quick hook, mop up, 2-3 IP max and avoid LHB
is used in consecutive games which are tied in final AB and loses both games. Game 160 BJ Ryan never got to pitch & game 161 loss where was T. Hoffman my top RHRP. I needed to win those games & my weakest RP lost them consecutively. HAL does not seem to consider the importance of the game in relation to playoff seeding & viability.

Also, why can't we make an [b:804a22cc84]actual depth chart for all fielding positions[/b:804a22cc84] to make HAL's decision making process minimal. PS. I had HAL remove my CF B. WIlkerson (2 (-2)e7 to play aother corner OF spot & get replace by Nick Punto in center 4(+1) e16? I had much better options on my bench or at DH for corner spots (e.g. R. Mackowiak, H. Matsui & G. Kapler). Also set up an actual bullpen depth chart/use preference also. I know there are overuse issues which need to be properly dealth with, but Eaton should only be used in select spot situations, blowouts, when I'm losing by more than 3 runs or when I'm out of pitchers.

This one is a head scratcher as well...

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/2006/league/boxscore.html?group_id=326&g_id=918

I'm winning 3-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th.

Manager Strategy:
Closer-Maximize
Relief Usage-Normal
Setup-Linebrink (Both ways)
Closer-Lidge (Both ways)

Pedro (Slow hook & IBB less) is cruising along pitching 7 innings, walking 2, striking out 9. He walks Abreu to start the bottom of the 8th.

Now I'd rather have Pedro in to face Kent, but HAL pulls him. No worries though.

Instead of bringing in Linebrink, HAL brings in Lidge. Now this is the 3rd. game of the series. Linebrink didn't pitch in the 2nd. game and he threw 1 2/3 of an inning in the first game, so fatigue shouldn't be a factor.

With the closer settings to Maximize, shouldn't Linebrink have come in?
He is the setup man both ways. He's also a 2L where Lidge is a 1R.
After Kent, Chavez and Berkman were coming up. Linebrink should be in the ballgame.

I'm not complaining here Bernie about the loss. Lidge is a good RP. He's just set for Maximize. And I thought he should come in ONLY in the 9th...

*** TOP OF INNING 6 ***
0 T.Iguchi 4 Single b-1
SUBSTITUTE P - Rafael Betancourt
0 1 1 Caught Stealing 1-o
1 E.Brown 3 Strike Out b-0
2 C.Crawford 1 Ground Out b-0

Felix Hernandez was my SP, his line was 5 IP, 3 Hits, 0 BB, 7 Ks with 72 pitches. I was up 1-0 at the time, which I assume justifies the move from Hal's logic. But he's an S7 and I have him set to Slow Hook so it makes no sense.

Again Bernie, with Lidge (Closer) set to maximze, enters in the 8th inning after Linebrink (Setup R/L) faces 2 batters.
