Campanella

Roy Campanella played in 144 out of 154 games in 1953. Why has he missed 49 games for me? If he only missed 10 games in reality, why can he get a 15 game injury? This is an injustice!! :x

That's not how the system works. Any player with less than 600 PA's can be injured up to 15 games. There is no limit to how many times this can happen. You are getting unlucky with him. But games missed to injury will fluctuate, just as batting average and HR's do. Overall they should even out. Occasionaly you will get Campy to miss less games than he missed too.

Campy misses alot of games most of the time . That's why a Carter - Freehan 's value goes up a tad . No 15 gamer. Having Campy can be like having Honus , one injury after another . Getting good backups is the answer .

I have to agree with Daniel that Campy's card doesn't make any sense. If he played in 144 games, his injury roll should come on a 2 or 12 (like Carter, Parrish and Freehan). Even though he would still be liable to miss up to 15 games, his number wouldn't come up as often. The injury rolls on 3, 11 or higher are usually reserved for players who lost significant time to injuries during the season, or back-up catchers (so that they can't be used too often as regulars, skewing actual results). During the '53 season, there is no record of Campy losing any time to injury, and the 10 games he missed were most likely second games of double headers and day games after night games, which are standard times to rest a starting catcher. IMHO, if SOM decides to upgrade any cards, they should seriously consider moving Campy's injury roll to 2 or 12.

I checked Campanella's original 1953 Strat basic card and the injury roll is on a 1-12. IMHO this another silly ATG "adjustment" that makes no logical sense, similar to rating Greenburg's arm a +5 when he threw out 17 guys that year. These types of unrealistic things take some of the enjoyment out of ATGII. Campanella's injury roll being one of the major blunders.

17 OF assists

I agree that Greenberg's arm shouldn't be +5. But, if he threw out 17 that means quite a few folks tookm chances on him. He probably should be a +1 or +2 (or maybe a zero/-1), which would actually give him more chances to chunk out those borderline baserunners (rated 12-14). A hefty negative would indicate that hardly anyone ever tries.

I totally agree with Danielz. Campy should have 1 pt. of injury. The injury system sucks. Injuries should be on a continuum not dichotomized into arbitrary categories. Guys with 679 plate appearances, should just miss 1 game max, 650 two max... etc. And guys like Hershberger and Riggs should be able to get injured for the rest of the season. Finally, for the ultimate in realism, Chapman should get killed on a 1-12 (1-8).

And it would be nice too if, when one of my players gets injured, he doesn't get injured on five other teams the same series.

Comparing Campanella to Bench, Johnny played in 142 of 162 games and had 9 more plate apearances than Roy 595 to 586. Johnny's injury is on a 2 roll while Roy's is on an 11 roll. I think it's safe to assume that if Roy had the extra 8 games on his schedule, he would have gotten at least 9 more at bats.

I always thought that SOM said that all catchers with less than 600 PA's get an injury roll on 3/11 at the very least. There rationale was that catchers are more injury prone. I wonder if Bench had 5 HBP's putting him over the 600 mark and that's why he has the 2/12. Because , really, from SOM's system, as I understand it, Bench is the one out of whack, not Campy.

I do agree that SOM"s injury system could use some work. It's crazy that a guy who had 599 PA's can get injured as often as a guy who missed half the year. But I wouldn't want them to have some cut-off-- where once a player hit his missed game allotment, than he couldn't get injured anymore.

Just checked and Bench did have 2 HBP and 8 SF- giving him 605 PA.

There's a guy (Dom?) who has 599 PA's, HAs he ever had more than a 3 game injury? I wasn't sure if they counted HBP"s and SF's. But this Bench thing makes me think they do.
