$100M (No DH) Franchise Theme League Auto-Draft

Gee, Merm, I'm surprised we haven't filled this league up yet. There are some great teams left and, with the 10-player minimum and $100 mil cap, about any team can be competitive. I've got the expansion Royals in a 20-player, $80 mil franchise league, and I'd be surprised if I got buried in that. Think of what a couple of extra parts could do for the World Champion Mets, NL West champion Braves, A's or Pirates. Even the Senators don't look half bad with a couple of key additions.

I thought the Yahoo league was going to be a challenge, but if that is any guide, we'll be battling for bragging rights to the cellar! :oops:

I have one additional rule proposal. When I was considering how to draft the 15 non-Astro players, I realized that I could maximize my chances of drafting a top starter or stud hitter from a non-league team by leaving off Dierker and Wynn from my draft card, freeing up $20 million for the auto draft (I would draft two $.50 scrubs in their place, and them pick Larry and Toy Cannon up after the auto-draft). I also realized that if everyone did this, it could skew the results of the auto-draft. So, my proposal is that you must not only draft at least 10 players from your team's roster, but the 10 players you initially draft should also be required to start the season on your active roster. In this way, I would have to draft Wynn and Dierker now, or else go through the process of adding them later, and taking a salary cap hit.

How do the rest of you feel about this?

Fred, I don't know what happened in that league. I was 3 time defending champ going in. Must be too many Strat-O teams. :roll:

I don't know either. That is the first time I've been in a Yahoo baseball or football league that I didn't finish either first or second. Funny thing is that I had a better team in Yahoo than in my other Fantasy League, but somehow the other team is going to finish third in that league.

I don't follow your logic, FAaron. If you wind up picking up Dierker, Wynn or any other higher-price Astro, it will still require you to use that cap space eventually. Maybe you pick up some big FAs in the draft, but you're eventually going to have to release someone in order to fit your Astros in (unless you choose not to have Dierker or Wynn, which would probably skew the results - but then, why pick the Astros as your franchise? I'm sure not going to give up Gibson or Carlton.)

My point is that if I pick 10 Astro scrubs, I will only use around $10 million for the auto draft, allowing me to use $90 million to select 15 non-Astro free agents. This increases my chances of getting a top starting pitcher or position player (i.e., I can draft McDowell, Singer and Marichal, and then it gives me a better chance of getting at least one them; I then drop the player I get when I lose out of one of the top starters and use the money for Dierker). I hope that explains it.
