Leaving Pedro off your Latin pitching staff is like leaving Koufax off your Jewish pitching staff. Or leaving Ruth off your "best hitting pitchers" team. Or leaving Bobby off your "most generous SOM players" list.
Or leaving beer off your " best things made with hops" list. Or... never mind, I'll stop now.

I voted as follows:

C -- I-Rod (no brainer)
1B -- Cepeda (tough choice, but IMHO, Pujols needs a few more years under his belt b/c there is no guarantee that he won't drop off like the Big Hurt)
2B -- Carew (I can't in good conscience vote for Robby Alomar after watching him Jake it for the Mets)
3B -- Edgar (a week position and I agree that Perez should have been an option here)
SS -- A-Rod (in 5 years, you'll be able to vote for Tejada for short and A-Rod for 3B)
OF -- Roberto, Vlad, Sosa (Clemente is the Latino Jackie Robinson. Vlad is just plain awesome. And you can't argue with all of Sammy's homers)
SP -- Pedro, Marichal, Cuellar (I'll admit that Cuellar is debatable)
RP -- Rivera (might be the greatest closer in the history of the game)

I don't think they have to be from another country-- just of Hispanic origin. In other words-- Latin Americans are Latino too.

I don't really see how Santana can be on there. He's only pitched about 800 innings.


I like seeing Oliva get his due. One of the more under-rated players in history, I think. I once met Luis Tiant and asked him who was the toughest hitter he ever faced. He didn't even think about it-- Tony Oliva.

I know, Santana hasn't pitched much, just a little bias on my part. He would have his 2nd straight Cy Young in the bag if it weren't for the Twins lousy offense. Still its too early to put him on an All time team, just having fun.

Its too bad Tony's health problems limited his production or his career numbers would have been fantastic.

What's with everyone taking Vlad over Manny? They're both great players, I had them both in my outfield, but I can't see taking Vlad over Manny any day. :shock:

Choices were pretty easy. Pedro is awesome. I would have picked Palmeiro except for the 'roids issue. Sosa is a terrible player. Outside of a few years of binge home runs, boosted by steriod and a corked bat, he brings nothing to the table. Poor on-base for most of his career, bad base-running choices, and he is one of the worst defensive outfielders of this generation.

A few years of binge home runs??? C'mon. The guy hit 33+ for 12 straight years (adjusting for the strike). He's likely going to be one of 5 players IN HISTORY to have 600+ HR's. He also had 233 SB's at a 68% clip, which, while not great is hardly poor.

You can argue whether he belongs on this ballot, but calling him a terrible player is a little much.
