Why does Yerkes have 0 innings on this team?

He is set to avoid RH, max 1 to 2 innings, IB less with this pitcher. Nothing else.
He is not set in the rotation. He is never used in the per game starters.

Why does HAL refuse to use him?

My guess would be it is because he is at the "bottom of the food chain" so to speak.

You have a 4 man rotation, leaving 2 other starter relievers to come in, both of whom have higher "R" ratings (and are more expensive!) that would be used first in long relief situations, and you also have Shiraldi, McEnaney and Worrell as straight relievers.

It does seem odd that so deep into the season he has NEVER been used tho! If you really want to see him used, try checking the "mop up" option, at least he would get used for that!

 :)

I see your point about bottom of food chain. But I really have a 6 man rotation using the matchup starters strategy so there should be plenty of games where the two extra S/R pitchers have started recently and theoretically tired in relief. That I thought would leave a 4 man bullpen with Shiraldi getting bulk of innings.

I have had teams where Yerkes got 50 or 60 innings with what I thought were similar strategies. I figure if I can ever figure out why on some teams HAL chooses to totally ignore him I would be a step closer to understanding how to get HAL to use him properly.

I could understand him not being used much. But as you said it is strange he has not been used even once. With my losing record there has to have been some games where everyone else was all used up.

Wonder if I started him one game if HAL would then recognize he exists?

I wish HAL would do that for me on certain teams.

I've got a decent team right now where Doc Medich has been used in six games. He's pitched more innings for this team on any 10 teams combined times that I've used him in the past.

Leave well enough alone and hope that HAL doesn't wake up.
