Stolen bases are of very little strategic importance in this era IMO, especially at 68%. He makes base running errors creating outs. When all you have to offer is home runs, 33 for a right fielder in a hitter's park in a hitter's era does not make him a valuable player compared to other right fielders. I truly don't believe he moves his teams any closer to winning than a league average player, and he would be near the bottom of the starting RFs for most of his career. When you factor in that what little value he has is due in large part to cheating, I would classify him as terrible.

A-Rod over Aparicio?

There are tons of people who can hit home runs, but none who could play shortstop like Aparicio.

Sosa was a pretty good fielder with good speed and a cannon arm.
He could steal a base, too.

Aparicio couldn't even touch A-Rods bat. As for defense he couldn't carry Ozzie's glove either. Hell, in 69 he was only a two and he was far from done as a player.

Sosa's a joke. Hopefully, he can be the Dave Kingman of the 600+ HR Club and be ignored by the HOF Voters. Doubtful, but one can hope.
In my mind, clearly the greatest of all steroid abusers in MLB history, he was NEVER NEVER NEVER a good defensive player - missed the cut-off man at least twice a week. Powerful arm? Yes. Good defensive player? Not on your life.

As great a fielder as Aparicio was, he was not the dominant player of his generation that A-Rod is. I know a lot of folks dislike A-Rod and think he is a pretty boy, but he can do it all. I'm a Mets fan and still wish they'd picked him in '01 when they had the chance.
Poor Slammin' Sammy. Just a few years ago he was one of the most popular players in baseball. Now, most folks act like he was the one busted for 'roids, not his teammate Raffy.

The ballot looks like it is for foreign Latinos only as it lists their native country and there are no American Latinos on the ballot. A-Rod is listed as Dominican.

Well, even ignoring that insane premise- the fact of the matter is-- over that time period he averaged 48 HR's, not 33.

Aren't these kind of contradictory statements? I mean his SB's have no value, his top 10 in the league in HR's have no value. What do you value in offense?

Well, ARod is on the ballot. Nomar is listed as a write in candidate too. I believe Moises Alou was on there too and he was born in Atlanta.

Maybeif ARod was a complete butcher, you might have a tiny thread to stand on. But ARod's a pretty good fielder himself.
