Looks like another Long Island League. Too bad I can't play in these leagues. Hey, I lived there for over 30 years. No way a team like this or the team I commented on yesterday that won 100+ games should be assembled in a vet league, unless it is a private vet league, or unless someone got really lucky in the draft. This speaks to my issue with 50 pts. being way out of line to the winner of a vet league versus the 20 pts. auto league winners garner.

Obviously the guys I listed as the top 6 are real steals, double entendre intended.

I would only normally choose Hernandez as my sole first baseman and then because the guys I prefer aren't around. You have three first baseman. Presume Chance is the DH. Musial obviously in left. Keith is slow and lacks power. His OBP and defense are good but why is he on this team?? You could have accomplished more with a Fletcher as DH, and saved money to get a catcher who can hit or better pitching.

Shalk seems to me to be a poor choice as catcher. Much of his offense is walks which tend to be wasted near the bottom of the order. And where else could he hit except 8th or 9th. Thus I avoid him like the plague.

Your record is due mostly to bad luck. But if you want to fix anything, look at Shalk and Hernandez.

YOur hitters in candlestick

Name R OBP SLG--L-- OBP SLG
===================
Collins .432 .417 --- .438 .401
Chance .473 .488---.516 .551
Musial .477 .693---.483 .683
Mays .402 .742---.462 .903
Robinson .468 .516---.478 .518
Meusel .420 .547
Hernandez .418 .423
Shalk xx
Bowa xxx

From this it is apparent to me Frank Chance your best stolen base threat should be leading off and Robinson should be batting second.

vs righties
Chance
Robinson
Musial
Mays
Colins
Museul
Hernandez
Shalk
Bowa

vs lefties
Chance
Robinson
Mays
Musial
Museul
Collins
Hernandez
Shalk
Bowa

This lineup puts your best speed and OBP at the top, your best hitter against the proper side 3rd, power slugger 4th and properly forces your best hitters to hit one after another. If a hitter hits ex base hits and has speed the top of the lineup is nice to get you on the lead, hopefully HAL will then pinch hit early for the competitors starter. Do not mistake the fact that Collins is loved for Collins should be at the top of the order in all cases. He is primarily a singles hitter, who do you want to get the 5th at bat late in the game? The man you have with the best chance of getting on is batting 6th.

I like Charlie's lineups, but I would switch Robinson and Collins vs. Righties.

As Petrosian said, your record is due primarily to bad luck, the only hitter performing anywhere close to expectations is Jackie. Your pitching is doing fine, and when your offense starts hitting like it should, you'll be fine.

For all of Bowa's defense, he really has no good spot in the lineup in top-offensive ATG teams... you bat him 9th, but anytime vs. L's or in a clutch situation, he's just about the same as the pitcher hitting #9. I agree with the others about moving Hernandez down in the lineup, batting him 5th over the long haul isn't going to drive in enough of the top-of-order guys. Robinson has 50+ on-base chances on his card against both sides, but you're definitely wasting his extra base hits and advanceable singles by batting him leadoff. All this, is simply IMHO.
