Theme of the Month Club-

Postby genegrid » Thu May 25, 2006 11:30 am

Lotto is high to low and the winner picks the theme for June. Let's shoot for a league start date of Monday 6/5. This should give us plenty of time. I know Parkav is away 6/1 thru 6/5 but hopefully he will have time to set up his team before 6/1.

Whoever finishes 2nd has July and they should post their theme by 6/15. You always want to prepare your theme at least 2 weeks in advance so we can always start a new league the first Monday of the Month.

Maybe Pelzer can take July and we can have a guest appearance every month. I actually like that idea but in the future we probably should not include them in the lotto. Otherwise there may be some of us that never get a turn to pick a theme. I am sure once a theme is announced for a month there will be pleny of people interested in that one particular theme.

[quote:71a7321860="doctor_tax1"]Just realized Randy not in the 12.

2 bad..... guess I have to find another besides the tator to harrass. 8)[/quote:71a7321860]

Doc, I'll be around all year to harrass. The bad thing is that you are my #1 nemesis in the head-to-head stats I published a week or so ago. Your teams have gotten into my players heads!! We drive to the ballpark wondering how badly we will be beaten by the Tax's ball-playin' henchmen.
I guess it makes sense that since the IRS is always harrassing me, the CPAs wouldn't be far behind.
BTW, my first theme league will only that we can only pick players from Idaho. Hmmmmm. I may have to think that one over more closely. I know that the '69 season we could all fight over Killebrew. That may not work.

[quote:79661b3bad="Assmeriten"]Runs scored 18902 with 4929 homeruns hit. League BA was .360, slug was .644 and on base was .428 the pitching stats were 9 shutouts with an era of 9.12 and whip of 2.12 We had no limit on pitchers or defense. The top 12 batting averages for players were all over .400, Ty Cobb lead the league with .463 average (no wonder I went for him in the draft and got him) Willie Mays had 108 homers to lead the league. The Babe (mine) was 2nd with 95. It was a fun league for those who love offense. 8) I think the cap was $80 mil. My highest salary pitcher was Bagby Sr with a cap of 3.71 mil but he was 17 and 12 so was worth it.

So there are your target numbers :) It would kind of stink if someone sets up a frenzy them if all 12 people couldn't be there for the draft and of course 2001 is frenzy only.[/quote:79661b3bad]

[u:79661b3bad][b:79661b3bad]WOW. Those are some pretty steep numbers to go after!!! I might have to dip farther into the theme requirements to get those numbers in Coors. Sub-$3Million pitchers and no 1s on defense all in Coors may get us close.....but I don't know!! It will be tough.

'69 is dying quickly so I am going with a theme so that we use all the players that do not normally get used in our regular leagues.

$60 million salary cap
Auto Draft---WAIVERS
Only those players with a salary of $2.99 or less are eligible
lotto again tonight for divisions 1-4-7-10 East, etc.
All other normal SOM rules apply

East division can start loading Saturday or as soon as their draft cards are ready. Hopefully everyone can purchase a team today and get started on their roster. First game will hopefully be June 5th.[/quote:2998e835e1]

I did a quick review of the 1969 catalog given Gene's Theme. Quite disturbing:

283 Hitters are eligible. A whopping 108 of those are priced at $.50. An additional 90 hitters are priced between $.51-$.99. So, 70% of the eligible hitters are priced below $1.00!!

Pitching prospects are much better. Of the 178 eligible pitchers, 52 are minimum-wagers ($.50) with an additional 39 below the poverty line ($1.00). In total, 51% of the pitchers are below $1.00.

I saw no mention of ballpark limitations - might I suggest a vacant lot?

Happy Hunting!!
