Yep penngrays site is down. Worst case scenario - we can conclude the draft on the boards, since it is only 6 rounds. Will alphabetize the keepers/franchise players sometime this weekend just in case.

Sandy... I'll close it on Sunday... having the WW go off on a holiday is not the optimal thing to do.

Looks like the draft site is up and running again - bigmahon is up with pick #2. :)

In an interesting turn of events, bigmahons squad drafts W. Stargell, the same player that had previously demanded to be released so he could test free agency.

Whether this was an accident, or managerial intent to screw Stargell over, is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile the third pick of the draft was George Brett, and was the third consecutive player signed to a 10million + salary. It looks as though some owners have $$ to burn and intend on spending it. Only time will tell if these purchases are worth the cost spent. There are still several free agents who could command 8+ million a year, so it will be interesting to see if the trend of drafting & signing big name free agents will continue.

guys, I have very limited access to the internet until late Sat. night or Sunday. I have left proxies on Penngray's site for 12 players, so hopefully that will cover me.

Gamiam's pick changes the direction of the draft, switching from hitter picks to pitchers with his selection of Ojeda. tkl & drx follow suit with pitcher selections of their own in Koosman & Scott.

Then oldgeezers proxy drafters cause another momentum shift by drafting the first sub 8m player.

The Montreal Marlins held a brief press conference this morning to announce the drafting & signing of Orlando Cepeda. Marlins GM Arryl Tremaine stated that the Marlins had been looking for a RH bat that offered as much power as Hank Greenberg, but could play a field position with some relative ease.

"Cepeda's ability to play 1B meant that that our team was able to fill two needs with one pick. We fill our hole at 1B left by the loss of Gehrig, and we re-establish a strong RH power duo with Cepeda & Yount, which we hope will be as successful as Greenberg & Yount were last season".

Interestingly enough, assuming Cepedas health remains as good as ever, this also means that the Marlins will have had their 1B play 162 games in every season of 'The Naturals'.

In what is likely to be the most surprising move of the 1st round - if not the off-season, cpl5454 has drafted L. Gardner with the 9th selection overall.
