FREE AGENTS

Can you believe in a public league I am in that after the autodraft the below players were free agents?

Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson, Pete Rose, Roberto Clemente, Sal Bando, Tommy Agee, Dick Allen, Dick Green, Mike Andrews, Bill Singer, Jerry Koosman, Andy Messersmith, Claude Osteen

You could make a championship team out of those players alone! I ended up getting Dick Allen & Sal Bando out of that bunch with a #9 waiver priority. In the frenzy after waivers I snagged Dick Green who was dropped by the team that got him in waivers!

Is having that many top players available after the autodraft typical?

Tell me about it:

I am in a league now, waivers just ran today, and Frank Robinson is still a FA?

Problem is, I have an OF that consist of:

LF- Northrup 2(-1)e6
CF- Bonds 2(-4)e9
RF- Clemente 1(-5)e7

I have Rich Reese at 1b, with 4.64 in the bank, I could downgrade a SPer, I guess, to get the extra $ to grab Robinson....

Should I?

I probably would exchange Clemente for Frank only for the fact of the 15 game injury possiblity for Clemente.

I have found this to be typical of ALL the autodraft leagues I ever joined, regardless of whether it was vet filled or newbie filled. It is a function of the cap and the fact you fill out your autodraft card not just on who is the best player but on who you think you will get. That results in some top players always falling through. And in EVERY league I have ever been in there have been good players dropped post draft because the players did not fit in with a team's ballpark or theme, or someone just needs to free some salary cap money.
