Too little, too late

Team won six in a row at end of year to finish one (ONE!) game out of wild card. Guetterman (freakin' Guetterman!) blew a save late in the year, which I deemed a "crucial game," and damned if it wasn't. Look ay what Jason Thompson did in 96 AB's!.

Looking at your pitchers, Campbell should have been your closer, not Guetterman. Even in a great year, Lee does not have closer makeup. He's better for getitng out of jams.

I'll bet Greenwell and Baines in the OF cost you more games than Guetterman did out of the bullpen!

I'd start Greenwell in LF with his .924 OPS if he were a 5.

Agree, I've started both Kruk and Greenwell in the OF with success... I was more or less just pointing out that you can't look at one player's one-dimensioned flaw in determining what cost the season... because you would go crazy about everything. Bottom line, I agree with Jablowmi, but I wouldn't look too much at Guetterman's flaws either.

your main problem was that you went up against a team that pulled j clarks, mcgees and rockets best years. schmidt was pretty deadly also towards the end.

that manager must be awesome!! :D

Freakin' Guetterman

As I told someone in our league, I just like to rag on Guetterman. I had Henke early on, but dropped the salary b/c I had good years from other pitchers. Had Lee's card that was better against RH's, so I went with him as closer. Since Campbell is a 3-reliever, I wanted him to set things up. The team did pretty well, considering its utter lack of speed (I intentionally drafted power over everything else, then had to drop players to get some balance). But, par for the course -- another 80-something wins, a second division finish (I just had ANOTHER 84 win team, second place, 3G out, just good enough to lose).
