First ATGII Team: can this experiment work at all??

Doerr is gonna struggle to produce in that league. Great defense, but you won't get your $4+ Mill worth of offense. You'd be just as well off with Frank White.

Ott will probably struggle also. Though not as much. Cleon Jones would probably give you more offense than Ott for less money.

Staley is better in hitters parks than pitchers parks but will usually get the job done.

Egvrich, tkl: I wanted Jones this afternoon and he'd been scooped up by someone else. With you weighing in in favor, well, that gave me confidence in what I'd originally thought. Lo and behold-- he came up on the waiver wire.

tkl- if I get to the playoffs, I'll buy you a team. The changes you suggested made so much sense to me. I like Merkle but Jones is something else entirely. I hesitated a minute over his D at 1st, but what the hell. His offense will make up for it. I hope.

Took Dawson, Evers and dumped Rothrock for a 50 center I'll deal with changing, too.

Cheers.

Do NOT get rid of Alou. I am glad to see that you kept him. He might frustrate you and get hit with a long injury, but he is such a vital player for my teams that go into Forbes.

You are awfully tilted toward the right. I'd consider Keller for LF and McCormick for 1b (defensive improvement, great rbi bat for your park and bullet-proof.)
The savings might allow an upgrade to Rolfe at 3b. That would give you much better balance.
Good luck with this season!

Small item, but if you keep Rolfe, McMillan is useless. Rivera or M. Edwards may be more useful OF backups.

I agree about Rothrock. Strongly disagree about Evers, Alou, Dawson and Merkle. Excellent speed all and good values. All keepers.

Who's available at catcher? Also grab a .60 M guy like Vance or Faber to spell Hunter. Keep Forsch too.

Team should at least break even as it now stands.

Vance and Faber are gone.

Picked up Rolfe, Edwards as OF backup, also Shano Collins (momentarily) as I need someone w/reasonable speed at least to back up Merkle.

I'm also holding on to Frank White at the moment, though Evers makes him redundant, until I figure out if it is best to platoon at 2B (Free Radicals suggests a Doyle/White platoon, and if I go that way I will have to free up some additional cash somehow), just stick with Evers and see what happens, or hold on to White anyway and replace Evers late in games with White.

Catchers pickings are pretty slim given budget. If I get rid of White and replace Gibson, I'll have about 4.3 mil to work with. There are slow pokes and or/slow pokes with bad D available, or else all D and no hitting. Even the cheaper guys are not swaying me more than Gibson at the moment. The list of suspects includes Chief Meyers, Spud Davis, Muddy Ruel, Steve Yeager, Buddy Rosar, Sherm Lollar and their ilk.

1. If you want to dump Gibson, grab a guy like Kennedy and let Hegan be your #1 catcher. Then you could dump White for a .50'er, Eastwick or Hall for Bahnsen and Merkle for CLEON JONES.

2. If you want to keep Gibson, dump White for a .50'er, Eastwick or Hall for Bahnsen and Merkle for Frank McCormick

tkl, I have no shame admitting to my cluelessness when it comes to ATGII and I'm on a steep learning curve regarding ballpark effect and all the rest-- so I will ask you a shameless question:

What is the advantage of McCormick over Merkle in my park? I see the very great difference in their numbers and the fact that McCormick can't go down, of course. I understand the relative value of McCormick v. Merkle as players without regard to context but in context of Forbes, does McCormick help me more than Merkle and if so why? McCormick seems to be so slow that my granny could probably take him in the hundred meters. Do his sheer numbers outweigh Merkle's attributes for Forbes and at such a price difference? Genuine questions, all, and like I said... I know I'm stupid about this game but hope one day to challenge the likes of you for a ring. javascript:emoticon('')

I can see why I should swap Eastwick for Bahnsen, but not Hall. I think I have an easier time grasping the pitching strategies at this point.

The thought of Hegan as an every day catcher scares me a little. Maybe it shouldn't.

Regards,
Phil
