Defense in the corners

Defense in the corners

Postby ThePaunch » Wed Jun 07, 2006 3:36 pm

HAL had his way with me Monday night and decided to give me next to none of who I had hoped for. I did manage to scrap together some decent hitters in the frenzy, but their gloves are lacking. Up the middle it's ones everywhere except SS where i have Oquendo (not the best choice, but the only SS left with a reasonable OBP). In the corners, however, I have Gherig, Clark, Bando, and Stargell. Will these guys be able to hold the fort or should I start looking for a trade?

My staff is Adams, Works, Lowdermilk, Munger, Spear and Frock. All the other stadiums in the league, save one, are pitcher's parks. Just my luck!

It isn't the D that will hurt you. It's the LHP. Gehrig, Clark, Stargell, and Oquendo are all far worse against LHP. Unless you fix that or your opponents are out to lunch, you're going to see a LOT of lefties.

I am always tempted by Oquendo, but NO ONE EVER picks him up.- this gives me pause; they all can't be wrong. The few times I've asked for advice with Oquendo in the equation, all have shot him down.

Based on that, I'd say go with a glove at SS and move on.

I just got Hornsby for Trammel and Whitaker - and went and got Oquendo to play ss - and now I read this stuff... Well may the force be with me - Jose can you see?

Oquendo, J. S 2B 3e21 429 59 19 1 45 81 1 16 .275 .326 .389 1R 3.28M
Abbaticchio, E. R SS 3e64 278 39 7 1 16 47 1 20 .270 .306 .375 1L 1.58M

That platoon has done reasonably well for me (once) in the past. Obviously nothing to brag about but solid for those looking for a bit of extra OBP.

The rest of the bats in the lineup are righty sluggers. Campy, Gordon, and Thomas. None lefty specialists but solid bats nonetheless. As for pitching, so far I see only 3 Lefty starters in my division, pfiester and 2 4th string starters. Hopefully that won't change soon.

I'll have to take another look to find any possible alternatives. I'll be sure to let you know!

Thanks for the help!
