Last Best League...League

Last Best League...League

Postby PETERLE » Thu Jun 08, 2006 10:18 pm

I just finished the "The Last Best League" by Jim Collins. It was a good read, not the best baseball book, but interesting. Its about the summer Cape Cod League where supposedly "one out of 6 major league player" had played there once. Its were the best and biggest college prospects come for the summer and play some ball and prepare for the upcoming draft.

Anyway, thought I would create a league kind of based on the teams of the Cape league. Here are the real teams:

Bourne Braves
Hyannis Mets
Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
Cotuit Ketteleers
Wareham Gatemen
Brewster White Caps
Harwich Mariners
Chatham A's
Falmouth Commodores
Orleans Cardinals

From the list, most of the cape teams have an equivalent major league team in terms of nicknames. However, there are 2 problems. First, there are only 10 teams, need 12 for a league and some of the cape teams dont have equivalent team in the majors. So here is my proposal for a league:

1. DH, autodraft but will be player restrictions
2. I randomly selected two new names for 12 teams - Cape Cod and Nantucket.
3. For the teams without an equal in the majors, I chose some teams based on which teams has the high payrolls for 2006.
4. Whichever team you choose, you will own the rights to all players of that equivalent pro team. So if you choose the Bourne Braves, you own all Atlanta Braves players, no other team can pick them. In addition, you also are only allowed to draft NL players. If you choose Chatham A's, you own the Oakland A's players and can only choose AL players for your team.
5. We will use pick 3 numbers and do a lottery process for selection of teams. Highest number picks first and lowest last.
6. Here are the teams for the league. All these teams are set, you cannot change them. Also I already assigned division assignments. I rather be a dictator on this issue in order to avoid any problems or complications in the future:

East
Bourne Braves
Hyannis Mets
Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
Nantucket Orioles (O's have a high payroll for 2006)

Central
Orleans Cardinals
Brewster White Sox (White Caps)
Cotuit Astros (Kettleers)
Wareham Indians (Gatemen)

West
Harwich Mariners
Chatham A's
Falmouth Dodgers (Commodores)
Cape Cod Giants

I have 6NL and 6AL teams to make things fair with 2 of each in each division.

Now, for the roster restrictions....

1. You must have at least 2 SP, 1 RP and 5 position players from your base team, like Braves or A's.
2. You can only draft players from the league of your base team. You can only trade between teams from your league. No trading across NL and AL.
3. There are no restrictions on roster size, you must follow all TSN rules in this matter.
4. There will be waivers and FA frenzy. Its a $80million league. I will make it an advanced league.
5. Must use the home stadium of your base team.
6. All other TSN rules apply
