I have a team going right now and mind you I am not complaining with an 11 game lead but I have noticed that you have to have alot of patience. Has anyone experienced this with pitching heavy teams? You sweep good teams or get swept by good teams. I mentioned the Tiger because I have a HUGE amount of respect for the guy because I look at his teams winning 100-110 games and I say wow! Now maybe it is just me and I did not put together a good enough offence but I am curious if others experience this too. I have won 2 rings with very nuetral teams and I am trying a pitching team now. Great staff anchored by Pete, solid ERA but at times inconsistant. I really wanted to share my thoughts in hopes of getting some constructive feedback for next time.

I like the team. One thing I noticed, Aguilera and Slaton have WAY too many innings. Put Slaton as the fifth man in your rotation. Since he is not a * pitcher, he will not pitch. Putting a non-* SP/RP in the fifth slot is the same as having Tudor or Sellers. That will force more innings to Tincup and Wade. I wouldn't have had Hegan as a backup, rather Pena, or Garagiola or Lake. You could have then been able to afford a Drabowsky in the pen, or Worrell. Much better to have another true RP than Aguilera for a bit more depth. If you're going to go that pitching heavy, you still need a little in the pen. No need to waste the $$ on backup hitters.

Just my €0.02

Did not copy anyone's team, FYI...

I was Just experimenting with a pitching team but I did not try to copy any of his (Tiger) teams. I just picked the four best pitchers and went from there. Hopefully, the team will gell again.

Please check the link to my team in my previous message, and appreciate the fact that I am known to use sarcasm and irony heavily in my comments.

I have become converted to extreme pitching teams by Charlie, and get ulcers all the time. Each of my pitching teams seems to kick butt for a while, then go into a slide, and then edge into the playoffs. Right now I have a team that was winning at a .650 clip for much of the season, and recently has been sliding badly. I am still in 1st place, but only winning at a .580 clip now. Do the math, and i have been playing sub-.500 ball for a couple of weeks now. Nevertheless (yes, i'm a lawyer and I use stupid words like "nevertheless" and "nothwithstanding", so sue me! ) I look at Charlie's record, and he makes it to the playoffs better than half the time, and wins a ring about half the time he makes it to the playoffs. Almost all of those are pitching teams, so hang in there!

And Chief, with all the extreme theme teams you play, how do you ever manage to have so many playoffs and so many championships?? By the way, how is your stone hands team doing? I saw the fielding ratings for the 1969 league, and it looks like the whole league is a "Stone Hands" league....

I appreciate the feedback. It is fun watching great pitching performances and I can see that it takes patience. I will buy more pitching teams in the future but will always favor what I am best at and most successful with and that is nuetral teams usually in West Side Park. Give me Cuyler and Joe Jackson, Gheringer, A.Dawson, Cochren, Cooper, Aparcio along with Dean, Hughson, Grove and Lolich, a good pen with Beggs and I am pretty happy. This current team is a little different than the usual nuetral teams that I play with but I like it becasue I have a little more hitting than usual. Check out Hughson's hot start!

Well, since you ASKED...the Stone Mountain Things, managed by Ben Grim, just started this week, and are 4-2. Thus far, the number of errors made has been disappointingly normal. Most in a game 3, at least a couple with none at all. But it is early yet.

And as for my playoff teams and champions, I do try to win some of the time, and even with my theme teams, I try to be competitive, to the extent possible. I actually go into the season with my theme teams at least hoping for .500, and I have done fairly well with some. My Bayonne Bleeders, for example, my high risk for injury theme team. Some of those guys are great players, and somewhat lesser priced, I think, because of their injury risk. The team is deep. I have Clemente, Kaline, Money, Frank Robinson and Bill Terry covering three positions, for example. My back up for Honus Wagner is Art Fletcher. And to assure that I can field a team, I have the indestructible Eddie Collins and Red Rolfe in the infielder. Cochrane is the Catcher. I believe this team can win. The Hands of Stone team includes guys like Wagner, Ruth, Larry Doyle, Tris Speaker...I really did not handicap myself much on this team, and I expect it to be competitive. My Tiggers theme team....well, his record speaks for itself. That was a no brainer. His system of extreme pitching/fielding wins. If you need 90-100 wins, there is the model. Now, some were stinkers, and even I knew it. My team of Jims and Bobs, for example. I still love the name, however...Great Red Neck JimBobs. But now I am thread snatching....so, excuse me.
