1 2005 team too many

Postby Roscodog » Tue Jun 13, 2006 7:05 pm

My last 2005 team had 99 wins, my winning PCT for the 2005 cards was .545 for 17 teams. I left for holidays for a month and a half and decided upon my return to start with the 2006 cards. During my holidays I came up with a "great" plan for 2005 and upon my return quicky started 1 more 2005 team. I soon realized that my great idea was actually quite stupid, but it was too late to correct it and the damage was done. Long story short my team is sitting at 9-15 (.375 pct) and on pace to easily be my worst 2005 team (it's early but I don't like my chances). I learned to never take a long Hiatus from strat again, it gives me too much time to become "smart". One 2005 team too many.

In theory I still belive the idea could work and with a little more luck in the draft it may have. Without going into all the details I would have had about 4 cheap (but good hitting) plattoons ie Gomez/Hill at 3rd base, an even ball park, 7 man rotation 2 of which could also relieve, 5 top hitters and a good pen. I got sewered in the draft and couldn't recover. aprox 45 mil would have been spent on the 5 hitters. I had everyplayer picked out in my mind before I even bought the team, it would have been a thing of beauty.

I should clarify, the flaw is not in the way the team would be set up, but instead in the likelihood of getting the almost all of the players necessary in the drat

yeah, I can see how hard it could be to draft all these players. I would suggest you to wait for a non-dh league to implement this strategy. All these platoons become efficient pinch-hitters, and Hal somewhat is better in doing double substitutions than doing simple substitution. :?

I agree with this. 5 top hitters averaging 9M each? The likelyhood of getting all 5, or even most of the 5, when 11 other teams are also trying to get 1 or 2 of them seems unlikely. What would be left after he AD would be that you get most of the lower value guys and only 1 or 2 of the hitting studs with all of the rest of the studs already on someone's roster.

It would be hard to recover from that during waivers.
