can someone explain the closer rating for me?

I'm confused about the closer rating on the pitcher's card. I thought the description on the Strat homepage made sense.

For example, if a relief pitcher has a rating like: [b:6e053f3fcd]pitcher-2 relief(2)/N@[/b:6e053f3fcd] then they are good for 2 innings of relief, but get tired immediately in save situations. If this is the case they how come:

1. Quisenberry is [b:6e053f3fcd]pitcher-2 relief(2)/N@[/b:6e053f3fcd]
2. W. Hernandez is [b:6e053f3fcd]pitcher-2 relief(3)/N@[/b:6e053f3fcd]
3. Fingers is [b:6e053f3fcd]pitcher-2 relief(2)/N@[/b:6e053f3fcd]
4. Gossage is [b:6e053f3fcd]pitcher-2 relief(2)/N@[/b:6e053f3fcd]

These are all 20/25+ save "closers" w/o a closer rating. Does this make sense to anyone?

Strat-o notes say they've only been assigning closer endurance rating since 1992 (seasons since then and any old timer seasons CREATED since 1992)... that would be why the guys you listed (from the 70's and 80's) would have cards w/o that rating... the CARDS were created before 1992.

I've seen several posts that indicate that ATG-2 is supposed to be set to NOT USE the closer endurance, presumably since ATG-2 has combined cards, some with closer endurance, some not.

I've also seen more than a few posts where managers disbelieve that the rating is disregarded in ATG-2... but alas, I'll leave that debate to the veteran experts. I'm just telling you what I know.
