best value/worst value

[quote:5f89a62d57="Jerlins"]This isn't the major leagues. A card is a card. What difference does having a DH like B. Clark whose power is minimal make if you can find it elsewhere at another position? If Brady Clark allows you to have ARod at SS or Andruw Jones in CF, normally two weaker power positions in real life, then the result is the same. Too often folks get locked in as what is the norm in real baseball, often resulting in less than optimal performance.[/quote:5f89a62d57]

But in many cases I would just go with an extra slugger and do better than having a decent leadoff.

Need value pitching...

Postby Ducapa » Thu Jun 15, 2006 9:08 pm

Since we are talking value, I could use a bit of help with my staff.

I like my lineup, but pitching is not doing to well. One problem is I face alot of LHP as you can see by the splits I think. I was thinking of dumping Prior, Lee & Sisco. I saw the value pitchers listed and I like Vargas, Byrd/J.Johnson/Wood, maybe G. Chacun & Mercker to put in for saves vs. Lefties. Any thoughts?

So I should consider keeping Lee, even though he would turn S hitters around to righty in my park? What about Prior? You would be in favor of dumping him for say Weaver/Byrd/J.Johnson/Wood....I kinda like Wood since he has no BP singles. What about relievers, so maybe dump Sisco and get a reverse righty? Any favorites there that might be a FA?

I've found it harder to find a consistent theme that works for me (which is how it worked for me in previous years), good pricing has leveled the playing field and it comes down more to the luck of the dice. I think the best thing you can do is put your team in the best position to win(given what is available) and cross your fingers.

I've also noticed greater success (of others) in using the 5man rotation and the use of platoons

Thanks! Was hoping for some specific names or preferences of pitchers that I have named in previous posts.

Okay, Wood is gone...so who should I pick up? I was thinking Vargas/Downs and J.Johnson/Byrd....damn I really wanted Wood too. He is suited well for my park.

Beltran is a good value IMO. I've been surprised at the performance I've gotten out of him. Good defense, decent slugging, all for under $3M.
