Opinions on this team.

Who is going to be hitting in front of Gehrig? You have woefully little obp. In my experience, Gehrig only comes anywhere near his expected value if you surround him with people to drive in, and people who can drive him in. You can bat Gehrig/Mathews 3/4, but I really don't see how you can put together a lineup that will score runs outside of that.

If I'm reading your FA list right I would pick up a subset of the following -- with alacrity.

Yount or Wagner for Wills
Dawson CF
Agee RF
Keller LF or Heathcliffe
Powell, Murray or Hodges for Gehrig.

2b looks really thin. I'd therefore keep White.

Drop Koosman as stated before. You should be able to afford the above suggested purchases. If it were my team...

A possible lineup vs righties

Keller
Dawson
Matthews
Yount
Murray
Agee
Freehan
White

I like Hodges better than Murray and Powell; less DP's for one; even with the increased injury risk. However, you don't want to tilt too much to the right so Murray gets the nod.

The new guys will cost you 30 M. Koosman and Gehrig alone save you 24 and the rest of the misfits presently tainting your OF will surely provide the rest of the needed monies.

My suggested version of your team should be competitive and win between 70 and 90 games. It's hard to predict more precisely because there is so much variability with the dice in the course of only one season. My guess would be low-mid eightes. As things stand, under 70 will be a probable fate.
