Fenway '67 Championships

Postby marsta58 » Tue Jun 20, 2006 3:16 am

Just wondering who out there have won pennants in Fenway '67 and, if so, how did you do it? Should you spend big bucks on hitters and pick scrub pitchers or go half and half?

Here was my first attempt. They were 50-31 at home but only 30-51 on the road. In retrospect, I might have over done it on the platooning.

This team won in Fenway. A couple of things I wanted to do in assembling the team:
* Strong defense up the middle to limit the number of baserunners.
* Have a strong pen in anticipation of multiple pitching changes during home games.
* Try not to look at the team ERA too much during the season, just the W/L record.

Here's my one Fenway 67 Championship team. They were fun to watch all season.

Fenway 67 is a tough place to win rings, here is a ring team:

The tradtional, and IMHO best way to win at Fenway 67 is with a bopper team. While surely it has happened, it is unusual to see a team that spends a lot on pitching at Fenway take it all.

Some parameters to target:

1. Strong D up the middle, must have a 1 in CF

2. Good balanced lineup, at least 3, hopefully 4 LH hitters. Get high OBP at the top of the lineup, getting pitchers fatigued is key.

3. Must have the better cheap SPs like Rommell, Speer and Frock.

4. .950 Card OPS and 50 BPHRs on each side

5. Target about $12M on pitching, Worrell, Wyatt and Tincup are some good RPs to have.

Easy to get players that are good at Fenway include Foxx, Brett, Cleon and Joe D. Suggest pick #1 & 2 be Banks and Mays or Mays and Banks and build a team around them.

Best of luck, sschu

Two teams with decent pitching:

If you have decent pitching, defense up the middle, OBP at the top, and boppers in the middle you can do alright.

I've never seen Bench hit that many homers.

My keys to a good Fenway team are:

1. Power at 2b (Hornsby)
2. Power at ss (Yount or Banks)
3. Lots of obp
4. Willie Hernandez
5. Cheap starters with low BP HRs (Speer, Vuck, Bagby, etc)

Thanks to all for the great suggestions. I'll consolidate all the input and try to put together a team. Even though my first Fenway team was only 80-82, I really enjoyed playing them and, if they hadn't gone 1-8 in the final 9 games of the season (all road games, unfortunately), they might have made qualified as the wild card.

Thanks again!
