1st attempt at hitting team, Polo Grounds '36

Nothing at all wrong with berra. He would ROCK in Polo....I think you see him on the wire alot because most do not want to pay that much$$ for a catcher....I have only used him once...

Berra will give you great offense, but the thing that hurts is his defense, it looks good at first glance, but his throwing errors kill you. The one time I used him, he ended the year with 25-30 errors. Still, he's not a bad option and he has lower injuries than typical catchers.

I would leadoff Selkirk, bat Chapman 2nd and Williams 3rd. But, Teddy can really bat anywhere from 1-4, including leadoff.

From my experience, the great pen is more important than the great starters. Leever has always performed for me on my bomber teams.

Ok. I'm going to stick with the pitching staff and hope for the best.

Swapped out Schmidt for Bando, will take a chance on Berra and his errors, and added Roenicke as an OF backup with some pop because I had the cash. Also swapped Hegan for Steinbach to back up Berra.

Am thinking about this lineup:

Selkirk
Chapman
Williams
Thomas
Powell
Bando
Berra
Doerr

Alternatively, Powell-Bando-Thomas in the 4-5-6 slots.

Bombs away, eh?

My question is - are the cards ball-park HRs correct?

I am in just my 2nd ATG league and I'm trying a team at Polo. So, far I'm 2-7 and 1-5 at Polo. My sluggers are doing nothing. Bench is batting 0.000 (0 for 31), McGwire 0.067 no HRs, Canseco 0.233 2 HRs. It doesn't help that Morgan is batting 0.118. I loaded up my team with players with lots of ball park HRs. My question is, most years the cards limit ballpark HRs to 1-8 rolls. My players have ballpark HRs with #HR 1-18 or just #HR - does HAL read these as #HR 1-8? If so, I'm screwed.

The game engine does not limit the BPHR rolls to 1-8. They are as advertised. You have only played 9 games. I suspect you've faced some tough pitching and the rolls haven't gone your way. That'll change. Without seeing your team I don't know how well you will do, but Bench won't bat .000 all year. :?

thanks.

From time to time I'll check to see the ratio of HRs for my team home and away. My HR hitters Bench, McGwire, Canseco and Doby should hit twice as many HRs in Polo than in Forbes (2 teams in my div are at Forbes). So, we'll see.

Big Mac and Doby will probably hit under .240 for the year. Big Mac will be around .210 I bet. Bench will hit about .250-.275. They will hit home runs, as will Canseco, but they will have horrible OBP and you will hit too many solo shots.

boss, you could be right. my other starters have better OBP - Morgan, Oz, Davy Jones and Tim Flannery (cheap 3b). I actually can't set a decent lineup because of the problem you mentioned, low OBP. Currently, my righty lineup is

Jones
Oz
Flannery
Morgan
Doby
Bench
Canseco
McGwire
P

I'd appreciate ideas on rearranging this lineup. I'm hoping that OBP and speed early in the lineup, HR hitting late, great defense and decent pitching will do it for me. So far, it ain't working.
