Your Expanding Strategy Ideas

Postby emart » Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:26 am

There was much discussion on these boards in 02 and 03, if I recall correctly, about program options that are built in to the TSN online version of this game. The online version, as I understand it, is based on the SOM computer version, and many (if not all) of the advanced features provided for in that game are/were available in the online game. If memory serves, TSN makes decisions about which features to enable for their online game, so there is some discretion involved on their part.

As I remember, the discussions of prior years were centered around homerun 'normalization' (Bonds) and the super-reliever problem, and TSN changed settings based on input/complaints from users. This being the case, I don't think that the idea of TSN making other adjustments to create parity is that far into 'left field.' After all, the SOM online game was not very profitable for TSN in the first few years, and Larry and Bernie would often complain about it.

Lucky or others will probably have more information on the game structure, as I don't run sims on the computer version. They will also probably recall the prior discussions in greater detail. 8)

ballparks

why not auto draft the ballparks just like the players with pref given to rank and if you miss you get the next available park that is closest to the one you tried for. It adds another dimension to the auto draft and will prevent what I see a lot of this year. A league filled with all the same ballparks

ummm what would define next closest?

Is SBC or Jacobs next closest to Petco?

If you want unique ballparks play in private leagues.

You have some interesting ideas, however, the one I'd like to see right right away, regardless of any other changes, is allowing managers to choose their lineup for each game, not just each series.

This allows more strategy setting up your line up against reverse pitching. :)

I agree with jagint. The next big extension has be to be daily line-ups (or better: line-ups specific vs each different pitcher).

I wish that there were a "5%" or "10%" option that required owners to stay within 5% or 10% of actual innings pitched or AB+BB totals for a season for each player. Going back to the skill vs. luck discussion...this would require more bargain hunting and serious strategy. This would be complicated with a 27-man roster limit and drop penalties still in play...but it sure would be a fun challenge.
