Joe - I look forward to your assessment of all the teams.

As expected, Hunter goes down for 8 games in game 13... :(

Steve,

I'll try to get to it this week, but the schedule is pretty tough right now! :(

As for injuries, I'll one up you. Clark is going to be injured for 16 of the first 25 games!  He's hit 8 hr in 9 games, but we can't keep him on the field. That's going to make things tough for us. Poontown is already looking like the class of the league. We need him to play more than 1/3 of our games. :?

Ugh.

More Ugh, we've lost Wright now for 6 games. :(

Clark has 3 injuries, Wright 2 and Taveras was out for 3 games also. Hopefully we're getting it out of the way early! 8)

Don't know what's going on early in the season, but we're looking into hiring a new trainer. Here's a picture of our most promising prospect.http://www.celebrities.pl/jenny_mccarthy/jenny4.jpg

yeesh, Clark goes out again, this time for 1. Has anyone else seen this guy get so many injuries this early???

In 30 games, of which he's played in 13, he's been injured 4 times!

Yeesh, you'd think the injury was on a 7 or something. :x

Joe,

Sometimes you get a group of people who chat a lot, sometimes you don't. :?

I think that if you started to post your team ratings of each team, the interest would rise dramatically!

A few thoughts about my team:

Can't complain about my record so far. 21-9 is a great start but it obviously won't last.

Very happy with my pitching.

Hard to believe that Lee is batting .190 with a .250 OBP but that won't last for long either.

With 32 SBs and 8 CS, this team has some speed which seems to be helping.

Larue is also underperforming, which seems to be a recurring theme for me in 2006.

Cheers,
Steve

I've got them done, just have to have time to put some comments on them. Stay tuned.

Yeah, you're off to a good start, but you also have a good rating. ;) Big surprise given you have the ratings from me! :)

A big part of Larue's rating is his arm and his clutch. To see what you're getting out of him, check the OSB and what kind of RBI and OB numbers he's putting up. The average isn't going to be all that great.

We thought we had some speed too, but so far only 13 for 21. :(

Ratings done!

A few comments. You're probably wondering about the Waves, well, the reason their rating is good, but their performance isn't is because they are horrible v RHP but great v LHP AND they've faced very, very few LHP.

A little harder to explain the Revenge. These stats are all in for the average park so they're a little off there for teams that vary from the mean. They play in Jabobs so maybe that's the problem. Of course, there is always one team that underperforms their rating and one that under performs so maybe they're the latter.

The Crabs *may* be the former, but their team is very well suited for their park so that maybe why they are doing well so far.

The Central is about what you'd expect with the Pounders and the Sox at the top. Given the ratings, that's what I would expect for the balance of the season.

In the west is about right except that I would expect that all the moves that the Cubans have made have doomed their season. They are working with almost $15 mil under the cap right now! They should sink rapidly into the West. Their defense is exceptionally brutal. (but not as bad as Texxass)

Ok, tell me how and why you disagree with the ratings! (Btw pitching and fielding, lower is better)

Joe,

Many thanks for posting these ratings. I hope it generates some chatter.

Obviously, I'm happy to see that my team is looking good. As you said earlier, not too surprising given that I use your ratings spreadsheet.

Well, I'm now at 34-17 after 51 games. I'm not expecting to stay at .667. I've never won more than 102 games in a season and I'm not expecting this team to win more than 100.

More observations - My pitching staff is outperforming my expectations and my offence is under-performing. In particular:

Larue BA .183, OBP .234, SLG .313
and
Lee BA .215, OBP .265, SLG .455

Suzuki is also underperforming but this is probably because my team has only seen 21% LHP thusfar.

The gamble on Hunter has not paid off so far. He has missed 20 games out of 51 and has been injured three times.

Peralta has put up phenomenal numbers as my DH but I don't expect it to last.

Joe - can you explain the ratings to us? Obviously the 'O' rating is for offence and the 'D' rating is for defence and fielding is kind of self-explanatory. But, what are the assumptions behind the ratings? Do you take the nine best hitters for the 'O' rating? How do you account for platoons?

For example, I picked up Rios specifically to substitute for Hunter when he is injured. How does your rating system handle something like this?

Once again - many thanks for posting these ratings.

Regards,
Steve
