Finished Product ... ALL PLATOONING TEAM ... Update

Postby dinsdale » Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:06 pm

I won a league with multiple platoons once, but it was a 3.00 or less pitcher league so I had plenty of money. I drafted all the best 3.00 and under pitchers then went with Whitaker / White, Dykstra / Lemon, Oliva / Horton, Prothro / A. Smith, and Freehan / O'Neil.

Led the league in pitching, had great defense and finished in the middle on offense. An upside to the platoons is during injuries you have a more competant backup than usual!

Dykstra / Flood is one of my faves - I have always loved platoons!

Two additional moves I had considered were:

Jose Pagan for Maury Wills  (actually, better D and more hits on is card, but I lose the speed and get a bunch of GB A's)

and/or

Charlie Jamieson for Joe Judge

Both moves would free up cash to upgrade Dennis Leonard .... hmmmmmm :?:

It's got 2 great starters, good bullpen, solid defense, I think it will be a very competitive team.

A good bunch of guys on the roster... I like the team. In checking the real-life on-base #'s, my first reaction was they were too low for a Griffith team... but then i realized that the platoon side would be better, and that I'd have to go to Diamond Dope to see those #'s.. and they are good.

Please be sure to update the post during the season... best wishes.

Much, much better (imo)

So many options to get that third big stud starter you gotta give it some thought.

I'd consider going with a much lesser pen. Lose Giusti, perhaps come down a little from Konstanty or Tippy. Most importantly coming down from your platoon in CF (costing almost 8 mil.) perhaps for Geronimo/Kuntz (under 3 mil.) to get that big upgrade for the rotation, maybe all the way up to Hubbell in place of Leonard. :) :) :)

Pete
3 Finger
Hubbell
and
Blue...You won't need a big pen. You'll need Geronimo's -5 arm too

Good luck I hope it works out. You have inspired me when I get a few credits I think I'll try the same thing with less pitching. I once saw a team in the '80's league with 110+ wins using major platoon, in that case I think he used 17 regular positon players.

Thanks Charlie. Be sure to post it .........

Nev, I liked your idea, but I didn't see it until this morning, so I guess I'll wing it for now and see how they do.

Off to a very slow start 1-8 to be precise.

Pitching is solid, but offense is struggling mightily. But, it's not for the reason you might think (facing their weak side). My hitters are facing a very high % of their strong side, but they are simply sucking it up against their strong side. Check the L/R splits and you'll see what I'm talking about. Guys that should be crushing RHP's are hitting under .250 and vice versa for most of my LHP killers .........

Team started off real slow ... 1-9 in first ten games ... 4-13 in first 17 games ...

But, they have gone 20-8 since to raise their record 24-21 and move into a tie for first place.
