You may end up being right, but how do you get '87 out of Dawson? 97 ABs at the Kingdome and Fenway (home parks, anyway) led to 2 HRs, 1 2B, a .124 BA, .196 SLG and .165 OBP.

dawson,s card was revealed to me......it,s..............................

HIS SECRET SEVENTH SEASON CARD......EVERY PLAYER HAS 1. IT RARELY,VERY RARELY COMES OUT.
It,s his 1958 valley creek raiders t-ball card. he was horrible.after that season his dad told him,"it,s either baseball or ballet. which is it".

AND THE REST IS HISTORY....
Which brings us back to here....(seventh season)

Dawson 1987 Card

Postby Semper Gumby » Tue Jun 27, 2006 7:30 pm

How?

I guessed. :D

Really.

1987?

Actually, my theory is that Dawson [b:e4cecc6fc1]isn't sporting his 1984[/b:e4cecc6fc1] season card here.

Why 1984?

[b:e4cecc6fc1]No Slugging[/b:e4cecc6fc1]

I grant his lack of power is probably enough to jump on the 1984 bandwagon but closer inspection shows some leaks here.

[list:e4cecc6fc1]Dawson only [b:e4cecc6fc1]played six (6) games [/b:e4cecc6fc1]in the Kingdome [b:e4cecc6fc1]AND[/b:e4cecc6fc1]played nine (9) games in sub-neutral (County / Veterans) or pitcher parks (Busch)

Faced three (3) of top 5 pitching teams [b:e4cecc6fc1]AND[/b:e4cecc6fc1] faced Clemens twice (note: [u:e4cecc6fc1]the Rocket has yet to yielded a HR to RHB[/u:e4cecc6fc1])!

Copycats, as a team, only had [b:e4cecc6fc1]18 HRs @ game 16 [/b:e4cecc6fc1](hit 16 HRs in 9 games and all at home)

For you, Dawson didn't hit any HRs versus LHPs but hit two (2) vs. RHPs[/list:u:e4cecc6fc1]

Hmmm ... looking at the cards - Dawson's 1984 season provides more HR chances verus LHPs (4.8 / 7) than RHPs (2.4 / 3) where as his 1982 season (1.8 / 3 - 4.5 / 7) is almost the inverse of the 1984 season.

Yet, his only two (2) HRs came off of RHP.

Okay ... he clearly didn't show glimpses of his 1987 season power but can you blame him when he faced Clemens x2, Soto, and Orel all in span of 18 games?

[b:e4cecc6fc1]No OBP[/b:e4cecc6fc1]

The Hawk has three (3) walks this season. However, 1984 ain't his walk-less season.

The Hawk has never been known for his OBP but his 1984 season card does provide for [b:e4cecc6fc1]14 / 6[/b:e4cecc6fc1] chances for walks. Overall - I believe this his high walk total of any season card. As far as I looked, his only walk under your watch came against RH Doug Bair.

Which cards offer the lowest walks? [b:e4cecc6fc1]1982[/b:e4cecc6fc1] and [b:e4cecc6fc1]1987[/b:e4cecc6fc1].

[b:e4cecc6fc1]Too Many Ks[/b:e4cecc6fc1]

Yes, he strikes out a lot here.

Ironically, 1984 ain't his big K year (11 / 14) - [b:e4cecc6fc1]1982[/b:e4cecc6fc1] (16 / 15) and [b:e4cecc6fc1]1987[/b:e4cecc6fc1] (15 / 15) hold that distinction.

[b:e4cecc6fc1]PERHAPS, you are right and we are working with his 1984 season.[/b:e4cecc6fc1] For now, he is an injury chance away from being a dud or a stud.

Notwithstanding the gamble on Dawson not sporting his 1984 card, I felt his worse card still gave me an overall upgrade defense-wise pushing his 1e(-4)7 into CF and sliding Gwynn's 1e(-2)7 into RF.

[b:e4cecc6fc1]Now Rice is a different story[/b:e4cecc6fc1] - :?:

My Irish side tells me he is working with a very underperforming [b:e4cecc6fc1]1982 / 1983[/b:e4cecc6fc1] season given HALs two (2) IBBs and some other signs.

Of course, I am going to play all the cards here and see where the Texas hold 'em leaves me

Rich or BROKE - you can't ever out guess HAL cause he knows more than we do!

Jab,

It is pure fiction.

Frankly, I smell Dawson's non-1984 just like I smell Rice's non-1988 season.

Of course, I suffered from Asthma as a child so my smelling / breathing skills might be dicked some three decades later.

If anything, it gave me a chance to dump Hrbek for an overperforming Luzinski

[b:84e0406dad]Question for the peanut gallery -[/b:84e0406dad]

WHY DIDN'T TSN select one of LUZ's mid - to late 70s seasons?

Greg had some monster years to include a league leading 140 Ks. :?

Hell, Schmidt and Greg powered the Phillies to several HUGE seasons in the 70s.

I'd love a 1980 Bake McBride card. Did you ever notice that nearly every player that played only a couple of seasons for the Phils sucked in those years (Mike Young, Phil Bradley - I can't think of others right now). I guess you do get the Dude's best seasons. Can't complain.

McBride

Postby Semper Gumby » Tue Jun 27, 2006 8:36 pm

I liked McBride's 1977 season (split with Cards though)

He had a .965 OPS with 11 HRs in 280 ABs along with 36 SBs.

Not too shabby from Shakin Bake!

Still Luz had a .988 OPS that season with 39 HRs, drove in 130 runs (had 11 OF assists to boot), and out performed Schmidt by a nose.

Of course, TSN can use Carew's 1977 season but not Greg's!

Opps!

Postby Semper Gumby » Wed Jun 28, 2006 9:03 am

[quote:69cb872203]1B: Luzinski (probably his .298 BA season but his power numbers are off)[/quote:69cb872203]

I nailed that last portion of statement just like Mary Lou Retton hitting the vault!

Luzinski decided to start his seven (7) game vacation tonight so we're playing either his 1983 or 1979 cards.

[b:69cb872203]Dawson Watch [/b:69cb872203]

vs. RHP - 1 HR / 3 Ks
vs. LHP - 1 2b / 1 K

[b:69cb872203]Fried Rice [/b:69cb872203]

Gosh, he had his first 4 hit series. Hot damn - we have a streak here.

Luz's '83 card?

I do and did.

I just liked Hrbek's LHB more given the decline of the LHSPs in this league.
