Using the 2004 set, the number of players on each franchise ranges from 27 (L.A. Dodgers) to 41 (Kansas City). The easiest thing to do, from my perspective, is to designate a minimum number of franchise players who must be retained on each team (25 would seem a good number, providing each team with a 40-man roster after the 15-round supplemental draft. This would mean that injuries could be allowed).

I would also limit the supplemental FA draft only to players from unclaimed teams (non-franchise players). Doing it this way makes it easier to monitor for compliance. If each team has to retain 25 franchise players, the ones released probably wouldn't be of interest to anyone either (we're talking the super-scrubs here). I've run a mock draft using the teams selected by 8 of the 10 committed owners, plus assigned teams to the two who have yet to choose, and there's plenty of quality remaining for a 15-round draft.

One note about lotteries: Not all states and provinces have a Pick 3, and I think Colorado and Ontario are among them. Make sure you choose a Pick 3 state/province.

We need to decide on whether we start with 2004 or 2005. Since we're using v.11, I suspect we all have 2005. Most of us probably also have 2004, which of course can be used in v.11. Is there anybody who doesn't have a 2004 set or would object to purchasing it? I'd like to start with 2004, since that would roll over to 2005 and 2006 -- the latter probably being out about the time we're done with '05. If we start with '05, we'lll probably have to wait a couple of months before the '06 set comes out. However, I don't want to burden someone with an expense they can't afford.

I just went and looked at 2004 and am finding what MoCrash stated above the number of cards varies greatly from team to team. I think his suggestion makes perfect sense, we all keep 25 players from our franchise team and draft the 15 remaining in the supplemental draft.

As for my team, Im in a really tough spot here. I live in NJ and have been a lifelong Yanks fan. Yanks are taken and i would have settled for the Mets but they are gone too. I guess I will put in for the Yanks and let the lottery decide. If I lose, no big deal as I KNOW RJOH is also a longtime fan and will do the franchise proud.

Has anyone tried to contact Lucky's friend or Rob55 if they are interested in this league?

I think we should do the 2005 season. I also think it would be alot better if we scraped the franchise idea all together. By the time we draft 15 supplemental players and do free agency (swap out players one for one?) the teams will bear little resemblance to the base franchise. I can see commiting to a stadium right from the start but the franchise thing takes away from the drafting and I think that's half the fun. I also like the keeper idea because you will need to keep one eye looking forward to how your players are doing in real life and decide if you want to keep them and if you may want to pick someone up who is having a better 2006 than 2005.

I'm in though Ace. I'm not quitting until I win at least 81 games.

We have tried contacting John, Lucky's friend, without success and when i asked Rob about this in Vegas he didn't show a ton of interest.

We have 10 players now and all of us have the 2004 season so if we want to start there that would work and then we could play right into 2005 & 2006 as it releases next year. The franchise idea is not intended to have your team continually look like the franchise you have selected. It is a starting point for you to build your team, if we draft from scratch it will be a 40 round draft which is a very long draft. We are also tied to to the franchise because their real record determines our draft order and we get first shot at new players they bring into the league. If everyone is against the franchise idea we'll scratch it, but I think it adds an interesting twist.

If we are set on the basic idea behind the league I'd like to start on the constitution and moving towards a draft date.

We could hold a 3-round draft (serpentine) to draft franchises based on a lottery draw. (10 players, 30 real life teams seems a natural fit.)

Everyone would have to set a 40-man roster from the 3 teams. Everyone should also be a able to field a competitive strat team when combining 3 teams.

Thereafter, we could have a short supplemental draft for the throwaways. Somewhere between 5 and 10 rounds should do it (probably closer to 5).

Then, we'd have figure out some keeper/draft for the next season. Personally, I'd think that forcing everyone to reduce their rosters by 10 players, then holding a 10-round draft for the next season (serpentine, based on record) would be good. But I've never been in a keeper league, so maybe someone could offer some insight as to the next season.

I'm in regardless of what's decided.
