First game of strat with my 8 year old daughter

First game of strat with my 8 year old daughter

Postby MICHAELMORGAN 4 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:40 am

My 8 year old daughter Karly is off school for the summer and already bored outta her mind. So she asked me to play "THAT BASEBALL GAME THING" that you are always playing. She had to really twist my arm and I said OK :D . We used some old Hall of Fame cards that I bought about 25 years ago, and I gave her all the best players and I took the Hall of Fame scrubs if there is such a thing. She wanted Barry Zito as her pitcher cuz that is one of the only players she knows, and I took Jason Schmidt cuz she knows him to. Any how the Hall of Famers took it to the young pitchers, and my daughter LOVED the bottom of the ninth when Mickey Mantle hit a 3 run shot to give her an 11-10 victory over DAD !! Her comment after the game was "this game is WAY cool, and a lot more fun than "Chutes and Ladders"." Needless to say I was all choked up and almost lost it ! She agreed to a rematch. Just wanted to share that with people that GET IT !! :)

I gave my 23 year old son a team for his birthday here . Now he's on his 3rd team and talking about wanting to play such and such park with his next team . He's only interested in playing the 2006 game because he knows the players but its great that he's showing the interest in the "game dad plays". In the league we are in together I have the better overall record but he holds a 4-2 edge on me in head to head play . We only play 3 series (9 games) and a steak dinner is on the line for who wins more . I better get out my credit card for that steak . Like Mark said " priceless" :D

Pretty cool Mike :) , sounds like she enjoyed it. :D Can't get any of my boys interested, they're like, what are you doing dad, playing Strato-matic? Might have to buy them a team one of these days, might pique their interest. Thanks for sharing the story Mike.

With a first child - son - due in about five week, it'll be a while before I can begin to convert him into a Strat geek like us.... what.... maybe 8-9 weeks?

Newborn convert.

Tape the fielding chart and the red and white offensive result chart(gb A,Flyball B, stealing, infield in,etc)on the ceiling over his/her crib then he/she wont have to lift his/her head and that thirsty sponge of a newborn brain will absorb those charts faster than you can say "oh heck he's a 4 in LF".
