Advice sought- Duke Snider vs Joe Dimaggio

Postby TRW » Tue Jul 04, 2006 8:12 am

I'm playing in Oak 90 (200mill league).

Given the following starters, who would be a better fit (Snider or Dimaggio)? I have Snider. Another owner is offering J Dimaggio.
I think I'm probably too lefty heavy.

C Delancy (L)/Lollar(R)
1b York (R)
2b Gilliam (S)
ss Chapman (R)
3b Rolfe (L)
LF Musial (L)
CF D Snider (L)
RF H Aaron (R)
DH T Speaker (L)

Keep the Duke, nice lineup except catcher, Delancy is usually a dud.

Best of luck, sschu

Injuries are not really an issue with your team, but I would still keep Snider. Joe D has won me 2 rings out of the 3 times I have use him, though. Those teams were both in Huntington.

Other than the injury factor, it's a matter of taste.

After retiring from baseball, Snider grew avocados, while DiMaggio sold coffee.

If you're eating tortilla chips, go with The Silver Fox. If you're sleepy, go with Joltin' Joe.

BTW, if you can't hear your stereo, you might want to consider Tris Speaker.

[That was bad. I'll go away quietly now.]

I'd go Duke . I'd also drop Delancy and put that money to better use. Lollar and a cheapo can do the job nicely .

I'd also say keep Duke. I like the team you've got with the exception of Delancey.

I'm curious though - if that's a 200mil league you're in, you've listed about 50-55mil in hitters (not counting the backups, etc)... so unless you've got 3-4 4+mil backups for hitters... How much friggin P do you have???? Are you close to 140mil in P?

I would normally go with Snider due to the injury risk JoeD carries. But I notice you have Speaker at DH. In the event of an extended injury to Joe you could slide him in to CF. Get a less injury prone catcher than Delancey and a decent backup. Then that backup catcher can serve as your DH fillin for when Speaker is playing CF in the event JoeD goes down. You get the great BA of Joe with minimal risk and improve your L/R balance.

I would presume in a 200 million league you have money to burn and nowhere to spend it. Therefore I would keep Delancey. Since money is no object then you platoon him and have a backup everywhere. I would probably make the trade as well

Read the first post people.

Joe D was offered in a trade.

Rarely does anyone approach $200M in total salary... there's usually $30M-$50M left in cap per team.

I'd really be tempted to offer Speaker to upgrade one of those MF spots... you can cobble together a DH that will be about as effective as him from your bench spots.
