Why is my team 1-8?

The team started 1-1, then 13 straight losses! What happened to Rip Collins? I see he was batting 4th in your only win.

Got a win last night! 2-16. This team will not win it all, but at this point you should try to make it competitive. Playing in the Dome, I'd try to beef up that defense in the middle, maintain the speed and try for some OBP.

Here's my 2 cents

Dump Mathewson, Schiraldi, Wagner, Jojo Moore, Klu and Majesky. This gives you about $13.65M to spend, keeps your top 3 SP in tact and Schultz is awesome, Cobb, Evans and Wills give you something to build around. I like Jojo, but not in the Dome his arm and speed make him useless.

SP - Pick up Rhoden, a servicable 4th starter, may do well in the Dome.
RP - Gene Harris would be a decent setup guy
C - Ray Schalk can get on base and has good D and doesn't kill you on the baspaths
2B - Hobe Ferris, never used him but he's a 1, can't get hurt and can run.
3B - Fred McMullin is best OBP and running with money remaining, play Moriarty at 1B.
CF - Agee has a little pop on the road and great D and speed

And also for next time, don't dismantle a team after only 9 games. Give it some time, move the lineup around. Change settings. You had some good value to start. Don't give up on it.

Good luck! Just double check the numbers to make sure the money works out correctly.

Line-up change, Learn to read cards.

Postby JAMESBEESON » Mon Jul 10, 2006 3:45 am

The '82 Atlanta Braves went 2-19 during one stretch and still won the pennant. You need to read and understand the cards, any single with a $ in front of it is an out if rolled with runners in scoring posistion and 2 outs. Hitting Wills in the four hole is not smart. Let's say your leadoff hitter singles and is at second or third after the next two hitters make outs, then all those singles with the $ on Will's card are worthless, they are outs. 3 4 and 5 hitters limit those $ signs,#5 hitter(will probably leadoff the second inning a lot)so a hitter with speed who doesn't hit into a lot of DP's. A good BA also helps. OBP before speed and average at the top of the lineup although speed helps(1 and 2 hitters). Your best hitter third, always. If you have a power guy with an average BA,seventh is a good spot.

Batting Wills fourth says a lot. Even if you don't know the cards or the game that well and go by name recognition only you should still have a better team. How much do you know about baseball?
