what's wrong with my team-trying to learn!

Note Griffey is DH, Dunn at 1B, Cabrera at 3B

Aside from the fact that Heilman and Lidge are getting CLOCKED, my leadoff hitter vs RHP Ford batting under .200 with a .250 OBP and Dunn batting close to .100 vs LHP?

Is this team fundamentally flawed? Appreciate any feedback so I can try to turn it around. Thanks!

Just a suggestion - when asking for advice for a team, please list the stadiums of the other teams in your division, that would help.

sorry. Banc 1 , Turner and jacobs in my division. Actually , the league on a whole is skewed towards pitching fields with the exception of 3 (Coors and 2 cell). That is probably part of the problem.

Did you already make some changes? I'm not sure your salary adds up to 80 mil? Remember making changes, especially this early, will usually hurt a lot more than help.

Being noted, Heilman has already given up 12 HR's, when he has almost no chance off his card. that means either a) a lot of rolls of the hitters cards, beyond your control, or B) he is pitching fatigued. When people talk about using Heilman as setup and closer (which you dont need ot do with lidge) I end up with great results when I get about 150-200 innings out of him, you are on pace for about 300. So I'm guessing it's a bit of both A and B.

Dunn has only 6.1 (out of 108) chances of getting a hit vs Lefties (1 reason I don't like his card and havent used him yet this year). So technically, he's doing better than he should vs lefties. He is all walks and Hr's.

remember, since half the rolls come off the Hitters cards, that your pitching stats will inevitibly look worse because of the nature of your home park. And also remember that it is still a game of chance, and rolls just might not be going your way.

Few things to point out that haven't been pointed out yet.

1. You have a farily high on errors team, so far (48 games into the season) you've allowed 30 unearned runs (Currently you are on pace to give about 100 unearned runs), you are giving 5.81 runs per game -counting unearneds, it'll be tough to overcome.

I think you haven't made any drops so that's good. :D

2. I wouldn't lead off with Lew Ford, IMO he just doesn't have the OBP to lead off.

3. You are leading the league in Double plays, so that's always a good sign, but the other teams are running a bit wild on you 41 SB against you with only 9 CS in 48 games is a bit high for my taste.

Most imporatant is what Geekor pointed out in re: to Heilman, he is amongst the league leaders in innings pitched (He has pitched more innings than Pedro Martinez, Doug Davis & John Smoltz  ), he's also amongst the leaders in home runs allowed and leads in walk issued. -T fix this I'd say just monitor his usage. I [u:859c98153a]don't[/u:859c98153a] recommend just dropping him, I really think that if you find a way of slowing down his work load his numbers will improve.

Watchout for Mulholland, he's facing almost 75%[i:859c98153a] righties[/i:859c98153a].

Hope some of this helps...and good luck.

BTW, are your starters all on a quick hook?

They are averaging 5-6 innings per start

Have Small and Beckett on slow hook, others on quick hook. Will change other 3 to regular.

Not much I can do about SB I guess.

If not Ford, don't know who to bat leadoff vs. RH.

Don't know why so many errors.Have 2 3's- Cabrerrra at 3B and Dunn at 1B. maybe need a trade of Dunn?

have Heilnman set-up both ways and lidge closer both ways.

Thanks for the insight!

Have Mullholland on avoid RHP, mop up, do not pitch before 8th inning, maximum 1-2 innings pitched, quick hook. Don't know how to get him to stop facing RHP's! Maybe swithc relief pitching from "normal" to "aggressive" ?

You are over-pitching Heilman.

Ford should be no more than a back-up. US Cell is going to add at least a run on your ERA.

Don't make changes now...

but pre season, for the same amount you are paying now, I'd much rather have had this:

You have: Dunn, Damon, Gueil, Ford, Monroe
I'd rather have had: Gomes, Gibbons, Dye, Garabito, Young (in your FA list)

Sure the Def would have been worse, but the hitting would have been soo much better.

No use crying over spilled milk though :P
