yeah this IS kinda tough. I thought I was OK getting out of the top three, but with a wrap-around draft I might end up with the Rockies as my second team after-all.

It hard to decide if you want to build this league around a team which kept consistant players on the field or draft a particular player and fill in the pieces around the "Decade Star". If you go with the team concept you might build just to have time dismantle your creation. (EXPOS, METS)

There really haven't been too many suprises as the "Usual Suspects" (i.e., Winfield, Yount, Boggs, and Brett) have been the top picks. It should be interesting to see what's left for the sevond helping after everyone else has picked the bones clean.

Genius Theme League

Postby bjs73 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:22 am

I think this will be a very fun theme league. I don't know if I surprised anyone with this pick or not. My #1 choices were Brewers/Red Sox/Yankees.

I like the Blue Jays here because they have a good core that makes it through a good chunk of the decade. They don't have many glaring holes, decent ball park, and many of the player salaries are easy to work with under an 80 million cap.

Seeing as how the secondary ball clubs will be somewhat thin by the time it gets back up here, I think that most of the ball clubs that will be left will be able to adequately compliment the Blue Birds.

I think that we will see much better statistics in this decade and more names in the game from the darkest corners of the 80's player pool. Good job, BC. Thanks for compliling the spread sheet YF.

I made a 177 page report to study from....

Those were my top 3 as well, although I never really put them in order. It's funny, had I picked yesterday, I would've definitely picked one team, which I will not pick today (even if available). I'll get a lot more work done once I make my pick.

The Blue Jays are an excellent pick.

They have a good covering of all the positions (Bell, Moseby, Barfield, Mullinks, Ferandez, Garcia, Upshaw, Whitt) for all years, good defense and several good starters (Key, Stieb, Clancy, Henke). Teamed up with the right team they could be a real force. And the salaries are resonable too!

OK BC and Jablow, now that I think know who I might want to pick, don't take 'em.

As I wait for BC, I have 4 teams on my list, which I keep flip-flopping. I have no idea what I'll do. Hopefully, BC will pick one of them!

When I was preparing my pick, I ranked my top 10 in order, trying to decide if I wanted to move down or not. So far, the top 6 picks were the same on my list in almost the same order ( I had Detroit then Toronto, primarily because I like detroit's mid priced pitching options).

After that, I thought the choices got a lot more even and difficult. My next four could all still be around in Round 2.
