the east is going to be a brutal division. and why is it that everytime I get a season away from being in a division with YF, I end up with my other nemesis Sykes.

For many of the same reasons bjs took the Blue Jays I select the Angles. They have a stedy supply of hitters for most of the decade (Downing, Lynn/Pettis, Carew, Joyner, DeCinces), solid D (Burleson/Schofield, Grich). The pitching is not as good, but given a good match they sould be OK.

Maybe I can get some pitchign from those Dodgers because they'll need some hitters.

I agree it was fun to review the players and teams. There are still some excellents picks out there and in fact I everyone in the first round should have more than something to work with.

In half-league drafts, California and LA are usually among the top few picks because Cal's hitting is so strong and LA's pitching is unbelievable. When I was thinking of dropping down to 7th, Cal was who I was looking at.

In a $100 million league, I think a team that had Cal and LA would be amazing. hmmm, wait a minute, there is a big discussion on collusion going on in the ATG forum, and YF and Jablowmi both happen to show up in the ATG forum at the same time, and then make team picks that work perfectly together.....hmmm..... OK, which one of you is a top 50 manager (see ATG collusion discussion)!

Hey YF, you give me Lynn here, and I'll give him to you in an ATG league.

The Central and West don't look like a walk in the park either, Hak.

This is, once again, a VERY competitive decade league.

I was up until 2:30 this morning studying the workbook that YF sent, as well as retrosheet. This will be the most intense league format I've been in since joining a few years ago. It will be a challenge to put together competitive teams year after year.

that is what makes it fun !!

Trading Question

Postby bjs73 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 1:26 pm

I'm sure that this will come up at some point and I don't think that it has been considered?

Say team #1 is in the playoff hunt in 1983 and he wants help for the pennant drive. Can he trade a player that doesn't appear on his team until 1985 to team #2 for some core help now?

If yes, then it would be like trading your farm system, I suppose, if it was your primary team.... But what if it is your "swappable" secondary team? There could be issues with that also?

I don't know how much of this is up for discussion or not but I sort of prefer a "non-droppable" secondary team to a certain extent. It makes trading transactions clear cut and gives you options to trade your farm hands (players that don't appear until the mid-decade) without causing an issue down the road where the a secondary team's talent was traded away and then, in turn dropped the following year.

It makes people sleep in the bed they made, I think?

I understand your thoughts, BJ, but my understanding is that the "trades of players from secondary teams are only through the end of the season" rule applies here. That would preclude you from trading a player that will eventually play on your secondary team because the trade would end at the end of the current season (long before he comes into play).

I do think that trading players that will eventually come to your team should be allowed. Kind of replaces the trading draft picks for current help. Its' like so many things in life, its fun to do now, and you regret it in the end (see the '86/87 Hakers).

I don't think we can change the secondary team swapping now, as it may have influenced draft picks (for better or for worse, it influenced by decision not to move down for one).
