New team teaser #7!

1. 1921 New York Giants
2. 1978 New York Yankees
3. 1906 Cleveland Naps
4. 1982 Atlanta Braves
5. 1966 Baltimore Orioles* (replaces '70 Orioles)
6. 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates
[b:a454d30ccd]7. 1979 California Angels[/b:a454d30ccd][/color:a454d30ccd]

featuring Bobby Grich, Carney Lansford, Rod Carew, Don Baylor, Brian Downing...

(Willie Aikens and Nolan Ryan will be taken off this team and represented on other teams)

I acknowledge that this edition of Carew does not do the man justice... but I do like the cavalcade of other '70s Angels stars on this team.

* Whether a year's card set is [b:a454d30ccd]Super-Advanced[/b:a454d30ccd] or not was a significant factor in our team decisions. SA card sets are sets that Strat-O-Matic officially created and released for that year, which include more accurate data (such as ballpark HR and clutch tendencies) than non-SA years. The 1966 Orioles (SA) replacing the 1970 Orioles (non-SA) is an example of such a move.

Other notes:

- Please refer to this thread for where I previously announced that ATG III will feature the option to play any of a number of pre-defined subsets of the master player pool, if you don't want to play with the entire pool.

- Since the team pool is growing so large, we are somewhat relaxing our "Greatest Teams" criterion for selecting new teams, and shifting the focus a little more towards the players. It's not a dramatic shift, but I just wanted to explain why you'll be seeing some 3rd place teams making the cut for ATG III.

- Error ratings WILL BE NORMALIZED across era, so you'll no longer have to worry about guys like Honus Wagner committing 50 errors a year.

One exciting thing about this post is the statement that Aikens and Ryan will be taken off and represented by another team. This Aikens hit 21 HR so I assume the one used will be better. And I am hopeful that Ryan being taken off means we will get one of the Ryan cards that approached 400 Ks. If so finally a Ryan who is what our mind envisions when we think of Ryan. :D

Grich and Baylor look good, and Carew will give us another cheap small ball style 1b.

Still, not very sexy. Let's hope the best are coming last!

I like Grich, baylor, and downing looks pretty nice. Plus carew needs to be in ATG even if it is not a great year.

Then perhaps we are replacing the '80 Royals with the '82 Royals and the '86 Astros with the '80 Astros?

Unimpressive . Carew had so many good good years , this one seems very mediocre. You could have given out the 77 White Sox and had better results . BUT they can't all be great great teams so I 'll use some of these guys to see what they offer . :D

Getting Grich, a 2B with over 900 OPS is nice, but have to agree with the Carew comments. Clearly one of his weaker years. :?
