Best/Worst Value or Performance

Postby longgandhi » Tue Jul 11, 2006 8:29 pm

Joe Mauer (.340/.394/.448 v R) and Miguel Olivo (.278/.316/.694 v L) have been a terrific platoon at Kaufmann for me. Another very good platoon has been Willie Tavares (.308/.336/.370 v R) and Eric Bruntlett (.281/.361/.531 v L) in CF, also in Kaufmann.

Have also had very good success with Brian Lawrence, John Halama and Ian Snell there, although the latter two have been judiciously used.

I know a lot of people have had some tough luck with Brian Roberts, but he's been solid for me - .285/.378/.480 w 31 doubles, 14 HRs and 26 SBs through 108 games. Tony Clark has put up good power numbers but little else.

I know I shouldn't have expected much from him but with US Cellular and Great America in the same division, I expected a little more than .227/.334/.478 from Manny Ramirez. And Joe Nathan has been brutal, blowing 10 of 34 save opps and posting a 1.50 WHIP and 4.73 ERA.

I have had him on several teams:

I know some of these teams are fresh into the season, but he is the real deal.

The first team listed is a complete season at Coors, can't complain.
Even one of these teams is at Busch (3rd one) and even though his avereage isn't where it usually is, he will get there eventually.

How the players mentioned here have done for me:

In Minute Maid:
Pettitte: 3.77 ERA, 1.23 WHIP
Heilman: 100 IP, 3.24 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 18-for-27 SV
E. Perez: 213/312/371
Counsell: 229/321/326, 15-for-16 SB
Edmonds: 245/360/476
Gomes: 250/349/491, 15-for-20 SB

In SBC:
Heilman: 164.1 IP, 3.89 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 27-for-34 SV
Utley: 242/342/440
M. Young: 295/360/437
Freel (mostly platooned): 238/350/392, 22-for-24 SB
Crisp (platooned): 283/339/406
Murton: 290/340/484

In Kauffman, thru 120 games:
Clemens: 3.42 ERA, 1.08 WHIP
Pettitte: 3.23 ERA, 1.23 WHIP
Lawrence (spot starter): 5.46 ERA, 1.57 WHIP
Mauer (platooned): 281/354/412
C. Snyder (platooned): 203/311/319
E. Perez: 215/301/361
Crisp (platooned): 294/341/451
Sizemore (platooned): 269/321/450, 12-for-14 SB
C. Sullivan (platooned): 239/279/313
Bruntlett (platooned): 203/263/412, 11-for-14 SB

I've tried to start Eduardo Perez every day twice now. Looking at his card, I'm not sure why it doesn't work, but it hasn't yet.

I think all of this depends on your park, how you use the player in question, who your competition is, and how your luck turns out.
That said, the two most disappointing seasons I had both came on the same team.
Glaus had a .270 OBP/.350 SLG in Turner through about 100 games before I was finally able to trade him.
On the same Turner team, through 110 games, Drew had played only half the games (should get 70% plate appearances with '5' injury) and had an OBP of .310. He went down for 10 more games so I finally had to release him.

I've been very disappointed in Manny Ramirez, very boring numbers both times I've had him. Also disappointing: Jorge Posada and Paul Konerko.

Two VERY good values I've found on several occasions: Pete Orr as a utility-man, has always hit .300+ with surprisingly few errors, and as a starter/reliever: Jonathan Papelbon has had three very successful seasons for me.

Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde award for me: Carlos Beltran!!! One team: .232 8 HR 28 RBI 9 SB through 120 games, and the other .358 15 HR 68 RBI and 22 SB through 111 games!! So who knows!!!!!!!!!

[quote:1040708738] Santana as well, not really worth the money as far as I am concerned.[/quote:1040708738]

Won a Cy Young and League MVP for me with this team, so far 13 wins and sub 1 WHIP at half-way point on another. I hope everyone keeps thinking he isn't worth the cash. 8)

I have had consistent performances...

Postby ROBERTVOZZA » Mon Jul 17, 2006 4:39 am

From several players in very diverse parks...And have seen these players perform either up to or over their value on other players teams as well.

But since they haven't been mentioned yet, I think I will wait until my Tournament is over or I am eliminated from play before I mention any of them.

But I don't mind listing the underperformers tho - from both my own teams and opponents.

Pitching: I have seen all of these consistently underperform for their price - Clemens, Pedro, Halladay, Santana, Pettitte, Zambrano, Harden, Johnson, Duke, Smoltz, Sheets, Baker, Garland Davis, Zito, Buehrle, and Oswalt(For those SP's 4M and up.)

Hitters: Pujols, Roberts, Bay, Helton, Edmunds, Taxiera, Both Giles, Ellis, Abreu, Sizemore, Howard, Dunn, C Jones, Konerko, Wells, Matsui, Burrell, Walker, Iguchi, Larue, T Hunter, Granderson, Casey and Guiel(For hitters 4M and up.)

Other players above 4M either have performed either consistently performed to value or better. But these are the ones I would avoid.

There are some real values in the set under 5M and the majority of my teams have been filled with them.
