Okay, I changed my mind. I decided I couldn't win the way my team was constructed so I added a little more power with Ron Cey and moved Lefferts into the set-up role since he has been pitching lights out.
How is this for a strong division battle

The negative run differential doesn't always mean a weak team. I believe I have seen your teams win divisions before with very little spread on the two. I have a team that is in first at 42-33 right now with a negative run differential. They don't score much, but have Dave Smith as a closer in his best season. A good closer can really help out a team that scores very little by nailing down those save opportunities.

Compared to the rest of the division... my weakness is definitely pitching.
On offense, they lead the league in on-base pct, SB's, walks, and oddly K's as well. They are top 5 in HR's and slugging, so they have decent power too.
Pitching, still searching for the right combo for 4th-5th starters, scary. And my WHIP is 2nd worst in the league (thanks to "lots of hits, but hard to score runs" guys like Gubicza, Forsch, and Sutter).
Bottom line, my team may be the streakiest of all... when the hitting is on enough to cover my pitching I'm golden... still, I'd rather have the kind of consistency that produces the highest run differential!

For anyone who is interested, we are down to the final two series with the BoSox leading with a record of 89-67.
The other three teams are tied at 85-71.
Looks like we will not finish with top four records in the league. The Northside Bruins in the Central have a record of 87-69. It still could happen if the Bruins fall flat.
There is actually a scenario that will allow all four teams to end up tied at 89-63, but the BoSox would have to oblige by losing all 6.

Really a great race. I was solidly in second last week but dropped back. Serious injuries on several teams - I lost Canseco for 5, Rox lost the Dude for 15 and Park lost Kruk and stellar Fraser for multiple games. Wish I had more than 3 at home - can't win on the road - and wish I had the (potentially) resting Bosox in the last series. Good luck boys, this should be a good one.

I'll post here what I've said in messages to these division competitors... I have a strange feeling that I WILL lose 6 in a row... after HAL cost me a game because he let Bob Forsch pitch 11 innings despite... giving up 5 runs in the 7th, and loading the bases in the 9th, and throwing 180 pitches, and... well, you get the picture... HAL decided to let Bruce Sutter throw 179 innings IN RELIEF so far this season, then lets Forsch hang out to dry in an 11th inning loss in game 155.
Yes, I smell a 6 game losing streak, so maybe we WILL all finish in a 4-way tie. Time will tell.

In this thread, we talk about the unlikely but interesting idea of one division having the four BEST records in the league (it turns out it will be maybe 4 of the best 5 records)... but in my very next league after this, I'm in a division where ALL FOUR teams in my division currently have the 4 WORST records in the league.
1st place.... 43-50
4th place... 30-63
The worst record from the eight other non-dvision teams... currently 44-49...one game ahead of the best team in my division.
The moral... as unfair as it is is one league... with several good teams in one division, the next league has the opposite, four not good teams, one of which who will win the division, make the playoffs, and attempt to win a ring with less than 75 wins, including playoffs!!!
