Was hoping you guys could take a look for me. After a fast start Im going through a real drought, and figured it was time to ask the peanut gallery.

Any critiques are gladly accepted.

Also, I wasnt sure who to leadoff in this bunch and wouldnt mind hearing your thoughts.

This is prewaivers, so assume that a few of the backups and Joe Black will be gone. Also, this league uses a DH, which Goslin will be permanently anchored.

Thanks,

MD

Looks like a nice team, if it were mine this is what I would try to do...

- Dump Derringer, Merritt, Lefferts Klinger and Dayley and pick up 3 nickels leaving you 15 mil for a couple of studs. Who's available for pitching starter or reliever?

- On offense I'm not a big fan of Gilliam and would try to upgrade there. Goslin is a great DH, but if you need $$$ you could drop him for Dougherty. If oyu don't need the $$$ just keep Goslin. 8)

OK, waivers have come and gone and I made some changes. There wasnt anything decent on the FA wire to upgrade hitting, but I did upgrade Lefferts to Newhouser and turned Merritt and Derringer into Marquard and a nickle starter.

Anyone think I need a mopup guy in case the big four run into problems?

Also, still looking for additional input, especially who to leadoff this team with.

Thanks guys and gals!

I don not like the fact that you have a "2" at 2B, SS and 3B. I would switch to Chapman and Doran. Pick up Geronimo to play against righties in CF.

My lineup would be
Cuyler
Cochrane
Goslin
Valentine
Judge
Steinfeldt
Geronimo(Righties)/Doran(L)
Chapman
Doran(R)/Flood(L)

If you instead keep Pesky I would bat him 2nd and drop Cochrane to after Steinfeldt

Cuellar has won 20 in Candlestick twice for me If Cicotte or Clemens available dump Marquard and 1 other(not Pete) Go for Cuellar and 1 of the other big two Dump relievers Set slow hook (Conservative relief use Dump Gilliam Pick up straight out slugger somewhere Sleeper in DH league is Jose Cruz All these guys have been on ring teams for me in Candlestick Main keepers Cuyler and Pesky or pick up Coleman and Doran and run run and run some more Worked for me Candlestick my favorite park Always stay in the hunt until the final week if I don't make playoffs Though it always depends where your other games are played also   8) :o

Guys, great advice. Yeah, I did a lookup on Gilliam/Doran fielding-wise and it was a no-brainer to go to Doran. His added range will more than make up for the few bases I will be giving up there hitting wise. (12.2 vs 6.6 TB/G) Now, I looked at Chapman/Pesky, and the base differential is non nearly as dramatic due to Chapman's increased error rate. (only about a 1-2 Base differential). Pesky's bat definitely is a difference maker, so I will hold on to him.

As for Geronimo vs. RHP, Flood actually has better numbers, so Im not going to platoon there.

Now pitching-wise, Marquard was about as good as it gets. There are no pitchers available over 8M. I was already planning on going to a conservative bullpen, since I have so much invested in the starting staff. I WAS able, however to pickup Sammy Stewart to gobble up innings in those extra inning games or blowouts. Trying to keep fatigue to a minimum.

Thank you guys very much for the input!

Nice looking team, but I would agree with Charlie here. Take Chapman over Pesky. Your pitching staff will thank you later. I only see a couple other changes I'd consider. I'd take Giusti over Klinger and you could use a good RBI man in the middle. Look at Cepeda or McCormick at 1B. Drop your hitters down to 13 (Hatcher). If you change 1B, you can drop Johnston and whoever that other guy was in the OF for Gaspar and Rivera.

Just my thoughts...

Good luck! :)

Good move on Stewart He has been on a couple of my teams and still I am in Pesky's corner I think I am in minority but Chapman has never done well for me

Guys,

I did drop Lewis to go to 13 hitters. I am going to stick with Pesky. Replacing Judge with either Cepeda or McCormick would have left me too RH for my tastes. I decided to replace Klinger with Henke. He will shut down RH batting anywhere and even the LH hitting will have some trouble when/if he comes in at the Stick. As for hitting, Im hoping that my speed on the basepaths will offset the lack of HRs. After all, my goal is to put together a quintessential smallball team based on pitching and speed. As for Pesky, he hits over .100 points better against RH and LHP. I just dont think the difference in range that Chapman brings offsets that, especially when you factor in Chapman's errors.

The other parks in my division are: Forbes (Hooray!), Sportsman, and Municipal. After looking at that, I decided that Bucky was a great fit for only half the division. I swapped him out for Red Ames instead. Now, Im a little bit concerned about the LH hitting and bias in the division from a pitching perspective. Do you think that Newhouser and Sambito will be enough to put the brakes on things at Municipal and Sportsman? Or am I overthinking this?
