League 5 NL - Sign up

Postby kcm0711 » Sat Jul 15, 2006 11:04 pm

I think the NL will be a little more difficult because of the lack of a DH in the real NL. This may thin out the hitters a little. I'm still new so I could be wrong. Being a purist, I would like to have the NL no DH. But, I'm not complaining. This championship is alot of fun.

Although there are no DHs, there are a couple more teams in the NL. Theoretically, there are a similar # of hitters in both leagues (9 everyday hitters X 14 AL teams = 126 AL hitters; 8 everyday players X 16 NL teams = 128 NL hitters). Still, the quality of some of the DHs in the AL make the AL hitting very appealing.

I got in a theme league with just NL players and no DH. found that the quality players thin out real fast. By the 4rth or 5th round the pickings become real slim

I like it when the quality thins out. That's where the real fun of picking a team and managing them comes in.

Event 5, NL Lg 1 Sign-Up

Postby Cubit » Fri Jul 21, 2006 2:04 pm

It is nice to chat about creating a National League Event 5 League 1, but I wonder if anyone is actually starting a sign up league? One AL league is already up and going. I cannot Commish this draft-- after my League 3 experience nobody might want me to anyway!-- but I am willing to sign up for the NL, despite being an inverterate AL fan.

AZHawq, as originator of this Thread, perhaps you could change the title to match my subject line here, or open up a new thread? I'd love to match up with you in bunts, double-switches, and knock-downs. Unfortunately, though, HAL Rules too many Rules to give us the kind of control we deserve. I just wish I could have that kind of control on a game-by-game basis.

Cubit,

I didn't initiate the thread so I can't change anything in the title.

But I will gladly participate in an NL league. Although, like you, I would like a little more control.

And I don't like bunting much unless it's a pitcher, and I don't like hit and running much, I do like double switches and I have absolute disdain, in real life, for the DH. Why not have a DR, the guy stands by the batter's box and runs when the DH hits the ball, or a DF that only plays the field. That poor guy never gets to go into the dugout. 8)

To me the DH is like playing QB in the NFL with a special don't hit me jersey, in real games.

Or, a BB player that just stands at the 3 point line, you can't really guard him, and he doesn't have to get back on D. Might as well play old fashioned 6 v 6 girls BB.

I'll start a new string with the subject you guys asked for!

For clarification: This is actually League 2 of Event 5. It is, however, the first NL-Only league of Event 5 (we can choose either).
