Does Anyone Play 1969?

I'm not wed to 1969, nor to any other single season. I think the idea is good, though, and if interest wanes, perhaps they'll release another new season and phase this out? That would be nice, if they would release a new single season game every year to replace the old one.

I fully agree, PJ! The 1969 game is fun but, because of the limited player pool, there are only so many times you can play it. I hope TSN brings out another single-season-from-the-past next winter.

You need to make compromises with your team in this game that you don't have to make in 80's or ATG-- but it has much of the same time-travel quality.

I think rotating single seasons would be nice Have 5 or 6 different ones for 8 or 9 mos. at a time and let credits count for all That way 69 would leave but those of us that like it a lot would await its return and play the other seasons in the meantime :shock:

I'm getting to like 69, but I'd really like to see a 60s league with mystery cards (as in the 80s game). I really like the mystery card/95-90-85-80 format because it really encourages FA moves and trades. It's more like the real game -- how do you really know how a player will perform before the seasons starts??

One thing I've noticed about 69, is that big-name pitchers tend to under-achieve. Marichal, McDowell, Gibson aren't worth the money.

I've had much better luck with guys like Bob Moose, Jim Maloney, Dick Selma, etc.

Interesting, too, is the lack of depth at certain positions -- especially catcher and third base. If you don't draft those positions high -- even if you're going for second tier players -- you'll wind up with Joe Foy types.

I dig 1969 alot. I'm just off a championship, and in 1st with a new team after 24 games. A long way to go however.

I'd love to see:

1927 (Murderers Row)
1934 (Gas House Gang)
1957 (Brooklyn Dodgers)
1973 or 1975 (A's '73, Big Red Machine '75)

I'm pretty sure Strat already has these full seasons with Advanced cards (L & R stats).

Those are all good ones, bc. I'd kinda like to see 1968--the year of the pitcher. McLain wins 30, Yaz wins a batting title with a .301.... It would definitely be different from any other Strat game.

Lately, I'm so bored with 2006 (despite my current team being in 1st nearing the 1/2 way point), that I am re-energized for '69.

It's kind of fun to play a set of:

a) classic players whose careers span a time period that stretches from about 1951 (Mays for example), to 1986 (Pete Rose).

b) cards that you know like the back of your hand.

c) cards that your opponents know like the back of their hands.

d) who knows where these hands have been? :?

e) some pretty interesting/extreme park-power-pitching-speed possibilities.

This set, while including some great power hitters (Reggie, Hank Aaron, Killebrew, Frank Robinson, etc...), reflect a bygone era, and are a perfect balance between the way the game used to be played. This in contrast to the joke of a game that existed between say the early 90's, and early 2000's.

In other words, these guys were out of their minds on amphetemines. 8)

I hope that SOM 1969 stays around a long while because every other league has so many great teams that strategy is minimized by the effect of numerous great players at every position. 1969 is the only game that makes you worry about not getting a player at a particular positon. You have to strategize your picks because you might end up with Bill Melton. I played ATG and found that if you don't get Mantle, you just get Mays, etc., etc. I found ATG to be boring.
