How would you bat Cobb in this Forbes Field Lineup?

I'm currently batting him 5th vs. RH

1. Smith, Ozzie (S) SS
2. Brock, Lou (L) LF
3. Brett, George (L) 3B
4. Jones, Cleon (R) 1B
5. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
6. Schoendienst, Red (S) 2B
7. Kling, Johnny (R) C
8. Wilson, Willie (S) CF

I figured that with everyone ahead of him having 44+ OBP chances and solid speed on the basepaths (run 15 or higher) that with his +8 clutch and 60+ TB Chances he'd drive in a ton of runs.

1. Hernandez, Keith (L) 1B
2. Wilson, Willie (S) CF
3. Jones, Cleon (R) LF
4. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
5. Kling, Johnny (R) C
6. Brett, George (L) 3B
7. Schoendienst, Red (S) 2B
8. Smith, Ozzie (S) SS

Note: Theme league with no Pure RP & no DH

I know Brock seems like an odd choice but he can do it all ... Steal, bunt, the N power will be of use in the Busch 64 hitters parks in my division and he has a ton of Xtra base hits, and only 3 GDP, and late innings will see Hernandez at 1B and Jones in LF.

Probably shouldn't listen to a word I say, but hre 'tis;

V. Righties
1. Smith, Ozzie (S) SS
2. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
3. Brett, George (L) 3B
4. Hernandez, Keith (L) 1B
5. Jones, Cleon (R) 1B
6. Schoendienst, Red (S) 2B
7. Kling, Johnny (R) C
8. Wilson, Willie (S) CF
cut
Brock, Lou (L) LF

Maybe flip Hern and Cleon, I like them both at 5

v. Lefties

1. Wilson, Willie (S) CF
2. Jones, Cleon (R) LF
3. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
4. Kling, Johnny (R) C
5.Hernandez, Keith (L) 1B
6. Brett, George (L) 3B
7. Schoendienst, Red (S) 2B
8. Smith, Ozzie (S) SS

You know what, I don't know what I'm doing, but I'll leave this up here to give people something else to bounce off of.

crackerjaxon: Thanks for that advice lol. :P I've never used Cobb before so one thing I won't be doing is benching him. :D

fluffyman64: Are you the owner doing that experiment of Aaron vs. another RFer? I might go with the lineups you propose if Brock doesnt do well ... going to give him a chance - I think I've used him successfully many seasons ago. :)

The "experiment" is LF Stephenson v. RF Aaron at Forbes. A tie in to a debate about their value as hitters in Fobes.

The thing with Cobb that I face, is if I have some good RBI guys, I tend to lean towards batting him 1st. Often though, he IS my big RBI guy so then I put him 2-4. Many times I have Speaker and I really like him as my #3, so I fit Cobb in around him.

The 5 spot seems like a waste

Aryl,
I think Cobb has to bat one of 2 positions 1st or 3rd, I usually like it when he can bat third but you have Brett so I would lead him off. Ozzie leading off is real trouble in 9th with lefty reliever against Ozzie and Brett. I would go Cobb Ozzie George against righties that way you get off to a good start most likely to get the early lead and have the starting pitcher pinch hit for and if you face a lefty if Cobb gets on Ozzie can bunt. The other solution would be to drop Ozzie in lineup and move Cleon to 2nd. you have a lot of speed for the basepaths!
