Our historical single season sets

I throw myself on the mercy of the boards...

...this team sucks. It's my first try, and I was so happy when I put it together, thought it was a first place team for sure... What have I done wrong?

vs. RHP
1. Fregosi, Jim (R) SS
2. Alou, Matty (L) CF
3. Andrews, Mike (R) 2B
4. Hebner, Richie (L) 3B
5. Torre, Joe (R) C
6. Northrup, Jim (L) RF
7. Harrelson, Ken (R) 1B
8. Comer, Wayne (R) LF
9. Pitcher P

vs. LHP
1. Fregosi, Jim (R) SS
2. Lock, Don (R) CF
3. Andrews, Mike (R) 2B
4. Harrelson, Ken (R) 1B
5. Torre, Joe (R) C
6. Northrup, Jim (L) RF
7. Peterson, Cap (R) 3B
8. Comer, Wayne (R) LF
9. Pitcher P

SP has been exceptionally good, at least I think so. Seems like this set is so offensively challenged, I've given up the league's fewest ER but most of the other teams are very close. I've lost a lot of 1-0 or 2-1 games for sure.

With all of this OB, I thought I'd rock. Unfortunately I think I have too many BBs and not nearly enough hits. I am next to last in the league with a whopping .222 BA...

I know Northrup is a bad fit, and he's been hurt too, but there really wasn't much else. The pen has cost me a couple games but I think they will be OK.

Does anyone have any advice is there anything I can do to salvage this season?

It is interesting that you say that Northrup has been injured a lot. I have him on one team and he has spent more time injured than he has playing. His injury rating is no more than anyone else so I don't know what is going on there.

Andrews should be leading off for you instead of Fregosi. I would probably move Northrup up higher in the order (when he is healthy). You are a little lite on power.

Who knows....this game is still new to all of us. Your team may yet turn it around.

PBTR, you already know whay your problem is, BA....

The thing is, your park is only favorable to righty homeruns. Its not even favorable to lefty singles. Your park itself, is under 50% for BP singles, so, right away, your losing BA from what the players were carded at....

Pitching wise, you are correct, you are fine.

Fregosi, can/will drive in runs if you hit him 3rd or 5th

Just try and minimize double plays in the 2 hole
maximize extra base hits 3-5.

Without trading, I don't know what else to say.....

Let me post a link to a Fulton county team, that is middle of the road in hitting, but leads the league in pitching (by far). Maybe it will give ya an idea on hidden hitters or something (tho we do have a few of the same guys)

The problem with 1969 is that to get a solid offensive, high average RBI guy is that you either need to pay 10M or sacrifice defense. Your expensive hitters are low injury, good defense guys who will be overpriced for their D/durability. IMO, in this game, you need to sacrifice one position defensively to get that cheap powerful hitter while still maintaining a strong staff.

I moved Andrews up to leadoff vs. RH and put Fregosi #3. I was entranced by Andrews' #s but you're probably right on that.

I left them where they are vs. LHP because thus far Fregosi has had a better OBP that way and Andrews has had a better average.

Also playing McCraw a lot more at first vs. RH. Harrelson still doesn't have a HR!

I agree....it's the avg/obp...I think you did what we all do...decent hitting and good D.....think we still have to find very good hitting to battle all this darn pitching...

It could just be luck, but it is true about giving up a little D

I have Perez at 3rd..terrible glove ..very good rbi ( I kept planning to move him...4 rating e33...but no one came close to his batting production to make the move worth it!!

and Carty in left....terrible glove ...very good avg...

also Epstein at 1st has been a beast...

and ofcourse my team captain..Jimmy Wynn a rare 3 in center..but doin his job.....

More poor gloves than I like....but value solid starters...lots of walks andpower...

Note ...my league is only hitting .239.(me .259).....pitching being in such large supply...seems like the power/walk guys may be the difference...

Whatever it is...hope it keeps working!!
Good Luck....

Thanks pals, I'll try to learn these lessons for my next squad (maybe I'll put together one for tonight), at least there's some good news beyond me saving a lot of money on my car insurance...

We were 5-1 last night. Only another dozen or so night like this and we'll be back to .500...

Thanks for the help guys.

Traded Harrelson (AWFUL card vs. RHP, why didn't I see this) to a team struggling vs. LHP for Cepeda. I'll be hitting him 5th vs. RHP and moving Torre down to 7th (he's been awful.) Let's see if this helps anything.
