Would you use Doyle?

Trey,
I agree that my P staff underperformed in my example (though B Welch did go 21-7)

Patterson and Fryman disappointed out of the pen and my SP's were not very good. This was an experiment with guys I hadn't really used and definitely not used together.

My argument was simply - I'm not afraid to use him at 2b or Bush at SS, even with their errors cuz of the stats they'll throw up.

This team won 84 games with a bunch of rags for SP - perhaps if I paid attention to that, I could have squeezed a few more wins out.

My best move of the year was to pickup W Horton after 26 games - look at his #'s - he was arguably as valuable as A Simmons for 1/2 the price.

Doyle certainly has a negative impact on the pitching I feel he probalby cost .3 to .4 in my team ERA or about 50 runs. That may sound like a lot but he misses a lot of double plays so those hurt. So you need to be careful with him.

I actually have actually felt the need for Doyle as a position player 3 times. Once as a platoon with Doran in a 100 million league - it won the championship. The team above which won the championship here's his playoff stats:
Doyle, L. L 2B 3e38 34 8 2 2 9 6 3 .382 .677 .475 1R 5.52M

and in a fenway team where I cut him and picked up Doran 1/2 way through the season for more relief help which also won the championship. His advantage is that he turns a position not normally an offensive position into a deadly advantage for 1/2 price of the other 2 big guns. His card's OPS in Forbes is actually better than Morgan's against righties so he is a force there for a good price.

WIth the new selection's coming I imagine Doyle will see little use unless he becomes cheaper.

If you can get him in a hard righty division he is worth the price of his defense. But it has to be the right spot. In a 100 million league I think Doran/Doyle platoon might be competitive with Joe Morgan overall for less of a cost but I usually prefer Morgan or else Doyle ends up as someone else's DH.
