EPIC LEAGUE - BJS for Commisioner

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

No. I like this league.

I really feel like the players I drafted are [i:6c9475fb6c]my[/i:6c9475fb6c] guys - do or die. I'd be happy to commish the league but I didn't really want to nominate myself either.

Judging from the responses in the league email, there are a few people that want to cut rosters and redraft. I don't think that was in the scope of the original rule set, was it?

Ideally, there should be good parity amongst the teams. Maybe not as good as the decade league but it is all based upon how you drafted. Anyone here feel that the parity part of this league is truly broken?

I like the team that I drafted, now I have made quite a few trades, but I made them and I have to live with those trades. If people want to retool their rosters, make some trades. The idea behind this was to keep the rosters that we drafted, just like a big league club. My team which has I think the most players would be dealt a diservice by protecting 15, or 25 players when right now I have 61 players. Just me rambleing on but that is my opinion.

By the way I wholeheartedly support BJS for Commish.

bjs for commish

anybody that wants to step up to the plate will get my vote.i know BC has his hands full with all the leagues he,s involved in because i,m involved in quiet a few of them myself.(it really keeps my head going from one team to another)

and on the other note of cutting back to 40 players. well, thats 480 players and that doesn,t seem to leave a lot on the table....i was under the impression that the team was yours forever so to speak.thats why i weigh that in whenever i make a trade....once they,re traded the only way to get them back is by another trade.....whether a 2 millon $ gut or a 75 center....gone is gone.but whit just one season under my belt i do not know what was discussed or agreed to in the previous seasons.....so i will sit out of this (unless asked)and let the comiss decide ....enough said.

rough day,50th b-day coming up +96 degree weather

BJS has my confidence for taking over. If no one posts otherwise in the next day, I will anoint him. But if you have some dirt on BJ's shady dealings feel free to PM me.

I'd prefer to keep the league as it is, but I would go along with some roster shifting if the rest of the league wanted it. This league needs to have more trading (with all due respect to Icemen who's alway game).

I agree we do need to have more trading. If I am not mistaken, Sykes has the same team that he drafted, and if that is the way he chooses to play I am fine with that. I just don't think that I should have to release any of my players just to shake things up a little bit. Now if someone wants to trade I am more than willing to trade any player (that includes YOUNT) on my team if I think that it will make a better team.

1 vote for a supplemental draft system

"The idea behind this was to keep the rosters that we drafted, just like a big league club."

I agree with the theory of this statement and want to make the league as accurate as possible...that is why I am saying that we should propose to protect a certain amount of players...i agree with jerry about having 61 players would mean he throws back 21....so instead we should all throw back 17...or less without going below a 40 man roster. the draft would run until all players are redrafted. In the big leagues teams who are struggling can better themselves by drafting...here we can't.. you can't say better yourself by trading because the theory of a successful trade is exchanging equal value...so are you any better? The only way to keep the league going is a process which enables the weaker teams to strengthen in the off season as well as trading hot players during the playoff runs...but it also seems like few teams try to strengthen themselves when they are in a race. so the only alternative is to have a supplemental draft like the majors do....protect 40 players or in the case of jerry 44 players since he has accumulated 4 extras and make them eligible to draft. This helps the weaker teams...and look at the west...weaker going in and all 4 were below 500. But it also adds the best elemnet of this game back into the league and that is a draft. the bottom 17 of most rosters will see the john wockenfuss's of the league back in...however the top teams will be drafting just as well and retooling themselves...it creates a true spring training when we all think we can win this thing. it gives us interesting decisions on who we are going to keep. i can tell you when i play season 3 as is i am only playing it out of obligation and just throwing away the 25 bucks. i will play because i committed...but we tabled this discussion last season and said we would take it up after this season. i definitely vote for a supplemental draft.

finally bj has my vote as commish.

Just a quick note here...

I am VERY against shaking up the rosters. Forcing me or anybody to protect 15 or 25 players at this stage is against the principle of the league as we created it.

Even for those teams over 40 men, it is kinda un-fair to force them to less, although they do have that in MLB.

In terms of me not trading, I know most understand my position. I have succeeded pretty well both seasons thus far using the guys I drafted. Look at my SP as a prime example. 3/4 of those guys are on the FA list in every 80's league. 8)

I am fine with BC or any owner in this league as Commissioner.

If the league need to get knocked down to 40 man rosters to keep going, my vote would be yes then. If the league needs to get knocked down to 15 or 25 men, I would prefer to not continue.

I hope nobodythinks i am saying that we should knock teams down to 15 or 25.......that is way too much. i would say that teams have to throw 17 players back in the pool. keeping 40 or more. But you can go no lower than 40 players. I think 40 players keeps the integrity of everyones team in place...but those fringe players on the best teams may have a role on the weaker sisters like me. just so i am clear. i will play 1 more season either way....i have committed to this league and want to be a responsible member of the community and league. i also made this proposal after season 1 so it is not as if i am asking now that my team has lost 2 seasons...i was competitive in season 1...but saw there was very limited ways to improve.

Take a chance on Willie Upshaw!

Postby YountFan » Wed Jul 19, 2006 12:37 pm

I'd rather keep it as it is. If you need players, then trade for them. The problem is nobody wants to give up talent (or trade a 'good' card). I know, I traded Will Clark last season pitching (which as been my downfall in the past). Was it smart or worth it? The fans will let me know when we start winning or continue losing.

These are the issues facing a MLB GM's. If people want to drop players to get others, that sound like a trade of minor talent. No one is going to drop Yount on the FA pile, They may dump Alfredo Griffin.

I face the same blank looks at the FA list during the season as everyone, and while people can be gun shy about trading, they should trade. Most people complain there are no trades, well, this format forces trade. I say stop overvalueing your players and shake it up. Take a chance on Willie Upshaw!
