Finally stole one!

Finally stole one!

So many times I have had teams with 95+ wins lose in the playoffs, four times with teams over a 100 wins. Never had a team win a championship with less than 90 games. Until now. My division-winning but pitiful 84-78 team somehow sweeps muttdoc in the semi's (96 wins) and gets to play the 101 win Odyssey Tigger team in the finals. I go up 3-1. Then in game 5 Koufax loses 12-0. In game 6 McLain loses 1-0. Then in game 7 Cuellar wins 1-0. AMAZING series. Now fifteen titles, the latest the hard way. My apologies and condolences to my opponents, the best team did not win. But, I'll take it. Another weird thing. I'm below .500 in the semi's but are at .667 in the finals. Go figure.

Here is my latest loser from the three teams that made the finals last week. Frank Bailey had a tough team with great pitching that won 94. So I don't feel too bad but... This team almost meets my personal criteria for a "great" team. Slg. Pct vs ERA differential greater than 1 and scores 200+ more runs than gives up (just a shade under +200)

And here are the "winners"

And finally the last team from the most recent finals trio. They swept the Series in 4, against a team with the identical record. Team scored +220 during the season too but fell short with only a .97 slgpct to ERA differential.

You don't have to thank me, but if my bunch hadn't snuck one away from you, your win over OT wouldn't have seemed nearly so sweet.

Congratulations on getting No. 15 and passing PBTR in championships. Now you can put Nevdully in your sights. :D

Thanks but it's more prudent, I think, to watch my back. You two for example are more likely to pass me than I am Nev!

Yes congratulations. I was very disappointed to lose that series because it was my OT rip off team, named, of course, the Odyssey Tiggers, and I was hoping for an all Tiggers final. Oh well. I will just have to put together Odyssey Tiggers 2!

My modest 7 total championships were won by teams averaging just
90.4 wins per season , including for ATG2, seasons of 86,87,88,91
wins. On the other hand overall I have had 18 teams win 91 games or more, including 4 100+ teams, that have been eliminated in the playoffs.
The teams that lost in the playoffs averaged 96.4 wins. Are the playoff results all luck?

I think luck certainly plays a bigger part given the smaller sample size (max of 7 vs. 162). So any short series is a crapshoot. Just ask Bobby Cox. I personally think the team with the best record in the league should get at least one automatic credit and then give 1 to the finals winner. Or if TSN really wants to please the customer base, just add the credit to the team with the best season record to the current setup.
