Nats GM Jim Bowden an SOM player

[quote:9f61b9dc35]His goal was different than most kids. "I wanted to be a GM when I was 8 years old,'' Bowden said. "[In 1973, Red Sox GM] Dick O'Connell traded Reggie Smith, I didn't like the trade, and that's when I decided I wanted to be a GM. Back when I was a kid, I was playing APBA and Strat-O-Matic, making trades and setting rosters and doing statistical analysis. But kids today have all these cool video games, and they do everything for you.''[/quote:9f61b9dc35]

Thought this was interesting, for those of you who like to see how the real MLB world is influenced by Strat....

Bob Costas is another Strat alum. I played against him back in the '70s when we were both in St. Louis.

I saw this article too,

Was gonna post it myself, but you beat me to it.

Costas is the man--good for St. Louis to have him as a native.

I find the whole premise implausible.

Who among us would pick a pitcher's park and then field a team with players like Marlon Byrd and A. Kearns in center? Imagine also that your big trade was for Kearns and a shortstop known for his bat and all the errors he makes, and that your LF is a converted secondbaseman noted for his iron glove. Yikes.

Maybe Jim just needs to read the SOM messageboards a little more for strategy.
