Annoyances (super HAL depth chart?)

Postby Ragnarokpc » Sat Jul 22, 2006 12:39 am

Okay, I know the game has its limitations . . . but why do I have to see me reserve first baseman playing outfield when my regular outfielder gets injured during the first game of a series? I'm glad it moves him to the bottom of the batting order, but I'd prefer to have my good defender (whom I drafted for this purpose) fill in during those off days. Is there anything else I can do to prvent this, short of dropping Benzinger and anyone else with an OF rating besides my outfielders? I liked the regular SOM Super HAL depth chart, where you could order who is your first choice, second choice etc. at each position.

Also, is there anything I can do to stop the computer manager from PHing for Ozzie Smith, only to bring in Doug Flynn (3e27 at SS) to field for him? I'm a defensive-mided manager, and especially at short, I'm just as likely to lose a run with poor fielding as I am to make a run by PHing for Ozzie, since my bench is so weak. Thanks!

Try this,
Check Ozzie's boxes that say, Don't pinch hit for and leave the pinch hitter options blank on the manager strategy.
As for Benzinger being the first choice to go to the OF, it's probably because he has more Atbats than your other reserve out fielders, so Hal picks him as the first sub.

Ah, I thought those PH boxes meant not to use them as a PH vs each type of pitcher. It's worth a shot, so thanks for the suggestion.

As for the Outfield subs, that is true, but I'd appreciate even asking you what you would rather emphasize in your sub - Defense, Hitting, or whatever. The main reason why I have a poor-hitting OF is because I want him to be used when my main guys go down.

Thanks for the quick response!

I wish we had a SuperHAL depth chart. I also wish we had SuperHAL baserunning and a SuperHAL bullpen system too.

However, there is very little you can do in the way of making HAL bring in your defensive replacement at the correct position after an injury currently.

Just like the previous poster said - checking the "Don't pinch hit for" boxes on Ozzie's card will help you out with that situation.

Personally, I don't emphasize defense in the corners as much. I'll usually try to draft a complimentary bench for those positions. Depending on my budget, I'd be fine with Greenwell in LF against RHP and initially platooning him with Mike Felder against LHP. Then I could use the engine to sub for Greenwell in LF (with Felder) with a lead against RHP too.

Works pretty good that way. You have more control of what the game engine does that way too with subsititutions.
