RICKY...DROP OR NOT??

Need some advise.........
I've got Ricky, 18 games in, injury reveals 84' year..
2.93BA. 16hrs.458/slg. 396/ob.......The league has 5 kingdomes, 1 murphy,but 1 shea, and 3 astrodomes..I'm in Riverfront, with Canseco, Zisk,and Tettleton hitting Hrs. and Boggs hitting over 400ba. and just
picked J. Thompson who looks good early on..
His 84 card isn't bad, and its balanced, but is it worth $7.55??
Do I drop Ricky?, he is my CF. Van Slyke, Dykstra, and Moseby
are available, and keep the cash to add power or pitching as needed....
or ride out Ricky, knowing he should improve his numbers............
if I drop him,which one would you add??

He's worth every penny and then some. He's going to score over 100 runs a year no matter what you get.

When I get him, I never drop him. The reason I never drop him is his run scoring ability.

It depends on your park. If you have a power park, I would try and trade him for a quality power hitter. I would be cautious in dropping him, however, since everyone of his cards is a quality leadoff hitter. But I would drop the card that you have if something special ever came about on the free agent wire, though I would not drop him for the players you currently mentioned were available.


However, I think you should be able to make a fair trade with someone for a good power hitting outfielder.

I'm keeping Rickey in his worst year on a current team, so I guess that indicates my bias. He's on a pace to score 112 runs even in this worst season. :wink:

One way to think of it is that 84 is Rickey's third-best year. The two best are amazing, but you can't count on getting them. If you don't want his third best, why draft him at all? :?: It's really a heckuva season--the raw OPS is good, though maybe not awesome, but also take into account the extremely high OBP (more important than SLG), the AA steals, balanced platoon, and the excellent defense and you've got a heckuva package.

If you really don't want him, I'm SURE you can find somebody else who does, so don't drop him. Just let the person you want to trade with know what year you've got....look for somebody who needs a leadoff hitter.

If you can afford it, Van Slyke can make a good platoon package with Rickey. Van Slyke hits vs RHP and plays CF while Rickey is in left. Against LHP, put Rickey in center and play a cheap RH hitting LF. :wink:

Thanks for clearing my judgement, I've had mediocre results from
him in the past, just another example of "play the cards" not your
emotions, I think I'll use the advice on Van Slyke, I'll let you know how it works.....Rickey's current numbers... BA. 234 SLG. 429 OBP. 310 SB 5
